Description
Meet Santa — the Christmas miracle Santa came into the world unwanted. When he stumbled onto our property last Christmas, he was barely hanging on — skin and bones, severely emaciated and dehydrated, covered in fleas. Around his neck was a thick, filthy rope pulled so tight it had cut into him, leaving scarring that has taken months to heal. He had chewed clean through that rope himself, fighting to free himself just to survive. And of all the days to come scratching at a stranger's door, he chose Christmas — so that's the name he earned: Santa, the gift none of us saw coming. From that broken beginning, what he's become is nothing short of remarkable. He arrived heartworm positive, dangerously underweight, and battling a nasty respiratory infection, and he's spent every month since in foster care doing the hard work of getting healthy. Through all of it — every vet visit, every setback — he never stopped being sweet, trusting, and gentle. He came out the other side with his nub wagging. These days, Santa is exactly what you'd hope a young Rottweiler would be: a big, sweet, affectionate boy with a playful streak. He's got energy to burn when the fun starts, but he gases out quick — a good romp and he's ready to flop down and relax. His happy place is the pool: he loves stretching out on the step to cool off, and he's even started venturing into the water (his swimming's a work in progress, but he's game). He's a ball dog through and through — give him a ball to chase and carry around and he's a happy guy. He also does wonderfully with other dogs; he's playful and a great fit with our own pack, so a confident canine sibling would suit him well. But more than anything, Santa is pure affection. He's got what we call a smooshy face — super squishy and sweet — and he knows how to use it. He'll do the classic Rottie lean, putting his full weight against the people he loves, and he wants nothing more than to be in your arms or laid against your side getting pet. A ball and a spot next to you out in the sun is, hands down, his favorite thing in the world.
