Description

Meet Carlos! Carlos is an adult male dog who is looking for a calm, supportive home or rescue placement where he can continue to receive the medical and behavioral support he needs to thrive. He has been noted to have severe bilateral coxofemoral (hip) dysplasia, which affects his mobility and can cause ongoing pain, stiffness, and an altered gait in his hind limbs. He is also currently being treated for otitis externa (ear inflammation/infection) and has received long-acting topical ear medication, with follow-up veterinary care recommended in the coming weeks to ensure resolution.Despite his medical challenges, Carlos has shown himself to be a very sweet and approachable dog who is generally easy to handle in the shelter setting. He can be slow and careful with movement due to discomfort in his hips, and may “pancake” or resist walking when stressed, particularly when returning to his kennel. He has shown sensitivity when interacting with other dogs, including stiffening and hard staring, and benefits from slow, structured introductions and calm handling. In previous home information, there were concerns about him being overly rough and energetic with children, so a home with older children or adults may be more appropriate depending on adopter experience and management.Carlos will need ongoing veterinary care to manage his orthopedic condition, including pain management, weight control, possible joint support therapies, and regular monitoring of his hips and mobility over time. Continued follow-up for his ear condition is also recommended to ensure full resolution and prevent recurrence.Carlos is a friendly dog who is most comfortable when allowed to move at his own pace and receive gentle, consistent care. With the right home that understands his medical needs and provides structure, patience, and ongoing veterinary support, he has the potential to be a loving and loyal companion.
