Description

Hi, my name is Belladonna, and I have a long story to tell.  I was rescued from a backyard and arrived at SBACC in critical condition, nearly paralyzed—unable to sit, stand, or even lift my head.  FIP was initially suspected, but an emergency vet visit revealed that I had a serious lung infection. My treatment began immediately, and I started to get better.  I lifted my head, sat up, stood up, and began walking and eating on my own. Then, just days before Christmas, I took a sudden and frightening turn. My breathing became rapid and labored, and I was rushed back to the hospital, where I spent nearly a week on oxygen. Further testing revealed histoplasmosis, a rare fungal infection that often requires months, and sometimes up to a year, of ongoing treatment. To avoid prolonged hospitalization—and to give me the best chance at recovery—SBACC purchased an oxygen chamber so I could safely continue treatment at the shelter.  A pet ambulance was required to transport me back to the shelter. I was gradually weaned off oxygen and made a remarkable recovery. I became alert, affectionate, playful, and eager for attention.  After four more months of treatment, I was finally declared healthy and cleared to be spayed.  I am now waiting for my forever home.  If you are looking for a young lap kitty who loves to be held and cuddled and demands attention, that is me.
