Description

Honey is an active, sociable young dog - possibly a Catahoula mix - who came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after she and the adoptive family just weren’t the best fit for each other. In her home, Honey was friendly with people. She was around the grandchildren (but sometimes had difficulty containing her exuberance and would jump on them). Her previous family did observe that she is energetic and needs regular stimulation (physical and mental) to meet her needs. She went to doggy daycare as well as group walks with a local dog walking company which helped her. Honey was crate trained in her previous home but the crate should only be used for short absences. She is reported to be house trained (with appropriate potty breaks timed throughout the day). Honey has enjoyed socializing with other dogs in the previous home as well as during her time at the Shelter. A home with another dog may be a fit provided there is a meet and greet at the Shelter before adoption as well as management in the home after adoption. A home with felines or small animals is not recommended due to Honey’s observed prey drive. Honey's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation's Leave No One Behind fund - a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
