Description

Meet Judge! This sweet blue boy is drop dead gorgeous. Judge is a 2 year old male Aussie/Border Collie/Bully type mix who weighs in at approximately 58 pounds (a little heavy for this boy). His handsome self has a good explanation for the extra pounds though - and it isn't even that he is very hungry...After arriving at Angels, we discovered that Judge has something called Hypothyroidism. This means that his thyroid levels are a tad on the low side. The symptoms of this include, among others, unusual weight gain, lethargy, and dull dry coat with excessive shedding that leaves behind a sparse covering instead. Before you get alarmed at this knowledge, perhaps the most important thing to know is that hypothyroidism in dogs, while not curable, is completely treatable. Magically treatable. With the addition of daily synthetic thyroid hormone, the weight drops, the coat recovers, the energy returns. It's a bit miraculous really. One of the best parts? It's inexpensive and easy! Most importantly, it shouldn't make you think twice about taking on a dog like Judge as, other than daily inexpensive meds, it's a non-issue!Judge was a stray on the run before he was finally caught and contained. He was sent to a special foster home where he learned to be a dog in the world of humans. He participated in training sessions, learned what a crate was, learned how to potty outside - learned that humans aren't the enemy. Judge can still take a little time to warm up to new people. Once you are a friend though, you're a friend for life. The family that decides that Judge is just what they're looking for will need to have patience and kindness at the forefront. He went through a lot in his short life and fully deserves all of the grace that humans can give him. Due to his slightly reticent nature, Judge will do best in a home that is quiet and calm. He can be easily startled by loud noises, so while we believe he would be fine with children in the wild, he would be better off not sharing a home with them. He is, however, dog friendly, and would probably benefit from a confident outgoing canine sibling to learn from and lean on. He walks amazingly well on a leash, is very smart, and we believe he will bond strongly once he is safe and settled in a home of his own. Judge would be best in a home with a physically fenced in yard (no electric or invisible fences). While he has firmly decided that he is going to be happier living in the land of humans rather than a life on the lam, he is also easily startled by new things - and lots of things are quite new to him. Due to this fact, he would be safest in a home that has a safe yard for him to retreat to, lounge in, feel safe in. Judge is an amazing and handsome boy. Oftentimes the most unsure among dogs makes the most loyal and affectionate best friend once that bond is allowed to flourish and grow. Yes, it takes patience, understanding and time. Small price to pay for the love that you will get in return.Judge will be ready for adoption soon. Currently we are accepting applications in order to find him the best home for him.
