Description

Meet Phin!  At 4.5 years old, Phin is a handsome Formosan Mountain Dog with a heart as big as his personality.  Phin might not be the first one to run up and greet you, but don't let that fool you. He's a shy guy who just needs a little time to figure out that he's safe, loved, and finally home. And once he gets comfortable? Well, congratulations, you've officially become his favourite person! Underneath his initial shyness is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, playful boy who absolutely loves his people. He's also convinced he's a lapdog, so personal space isn't necessarily his strong suit.  A few things we know and love about Phin:  House-trained and crate-trained.  A quiet, well-mannered boy who settles beautifully in the home.  Loves car rides, walks, outdoor adventures and hiking.  His favourite activity is running! Fetch is a close second, although you might find yourself doing most of the fetching at first. Knows some basic commands, including sit, stay, come and down. Has encountered cats and shown very little interest in them. Has been introduced to children aged 8 and up and has done well with calm, supervised interactions. Gets along well with other dogs, although he seems most comfortable around smaller or similarly sized dogs. Currently, Phin is the only animal in his foster home, and he's perfectly happy being an only pet! While he can enjoy the company of other dogs, he doesn't necessarily need a canine companion. If anything, Phin would much rather soak up all the love and attention from his humans. He's a people-loving kind of guy who is more than happy having his family all to himself! Phin is still building his confidence, and new people, places and experiences can make him a little nervous at first. He will need a family who understands that trust takes time and is willing to give him the patience and reassurance he needs to settle in. He can be a little unsure of the world around him, but with consistency and encouragement, he's already shown just how much he can grow. Phin would love a family who enjoys getting outside, going for walks, exploring trails and giving him opportunities to run and play. A securely fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus! We know Phin's person is out there. Someone who won't overlook the shy dog standing quietly in the background, but instead sees the loving, goofy, cuddly companion just waiting to come out of his shell. He might need a little extra time to choose you, but once he does, you'll have a friend who thinks the world of you. And really, isn't that worth waiting for? Could Phin be the missing piece of your family?  Apply to adopt through Hank's Haven: https://hankshaven.ca/info/adoption Let's find this sweet boy the forever home he's been waiting for!
