Description

Nyx — The Doberman Who Just Wants to Be Loved Sometimes a dog comes into rescue carrying more than anyone should have to carry. Nyx came into foster care with a history of health problems, anxiety, and a lot of change. She had been through ehrlichiosis, kennel cough, parasites, a difficult bout of diarrhea, and a heat cycle before finally getting the veterinary care she needed. Her foster mom believes much of what Nyx experienced was the result of improper care in her first home—not something that defines the beautiful dog she is today. And somewhere along the way, despite everything, Nyx never stopped believing that people could be good. In fact, she absolutely adores them. Nyx is one of those dogs who wants to be wherever her people are. She loves attention so much that she could happily spend hours getting ear rubs and scratches. And despite being a roughly 70-pound Doberman, she is completely convinced she belongs in your lap. Honestly, she's not interested in hearing otherwise. She is affectionate, silly, playful, and full of that unmistakable young-Doberman energy. She runs around the yard looking for toys to throw around, enjoys squeaky toys and snuffle mats, and loves a good bone or bully stick. She hasn't quite figured out the whole concept of fetch—but that doesn't stop her from having a wonderful time doing things her own way. Nyx also has a wonderfully goofy side. She can be hilariously distracted—one minute she's happily eating, and the next she's off doing something completely different. Her foster mom jokes that Nyx might have a little bit of “ADHD.” It's part of what makes her so entertaining. She is curious, energetic, and always ready to see what happens next. But beneath all that puppy energy is something even more special: Nyx wants to learn. She is a quick learner and doesn't need much repetition when being taught something new. She knows sit and down, is working on stay, waits for permission before eating, and has made tremendous progress with her recall. She responds well to consistent direction and correction, and her foster family has already seen how much she can accomplish when someone takes the time to teach her. She just needs someone willing to keep going with her. Nyx isn't a dog who needs to be perfect before she can be loved. She needs a person who understands that sometimes love looks like patience. It looks like practicing the same command again. It looks like giving her a good walk before leaving for the day. It looks like helping her feel safe when she's anxious. It looks like setting boundaries kindly and consistently—and celebrating every little bit of progress along the way. Her foster family has already learned that when Nyx is given those things, she responds. She has also learned that being alone doesn't have to mean being abandoned. Crating makes her extremely anxious, so she does better in a safe, gated area of the home. When her foster mom leaves, Nyx may whine for a while, but she eventually settles herself and usually falls asleep. That's progress. And Nyx has made a lot of it. She has also learned how to live with another dog and a cat. She does wonderfully with her foster home's male Doberman, although her play can sometimes become a little too enthusiastic and she needs humans to help her remember that she doesn't have to be the boss. She has learned to respect the household cat for the most part, although she may still occasionally try to turn the cat into a playmate. Nyx will need a securely fenced yard because rabbits are simply too tempting to resist. She loves being outside, running around, exploring, and soaking up the sunshine. She is also doing well on leash and continues to improve her manners with every walk. She may be a teenager. She may occasionally test the rules. She may still have things to learn. But she is also one of the sweetest dogs her foster mom has ever met. And maybe that's the part that matters most. After everything Nyx has been through, she still looks at her people with those irresistible puppy-dog eyes. She still wants to sit beside them. She still wants to play. She still wants to be included. She still believes that her humans are the best place in the world. Her foster mom describes her as a “go with the flow” kind of dog—happy to curl up and nap when her humans are relaxing, but equally happy to jump up for a walk or some playtime when they're ready. That is Nyx. A little goofy. A little mischievous. A lot of puppy. And a whole lot of love. She doesn't need a perfect family. She needs her family. A family willing to give her structure without taking away her joy. A family willing to help her continue building confidence. A family who understands that a dog who has been through a lot may need time to believe that this time, she's home for good. Because Nyx is ready. Ready for the walks. Ready for the backyard adventures. Ready for the squeaky toys. Ready for the ear scratches. Ready to climb into a lap that is nowhere near big enough for her. And most of all, ready to love her people with everything she's got. Nyx has already come so far. Now she needs someone to take the next steps with her. Someone who will look past the things she's still learning and see the dog underneath them—the sweet, funny, affectionate Doberman who has so much love to give. Someone who will look into those puppy-dog eyes and say: “You're home now, Nyx.” This fabulous foster is a Doberman Rescue Minnesota foster dog.
