Description
Date into Rescue: 8/27/2021 originally, coming back Nov 2026 Reason for being in rescue: Originally a stray from Mt. Airy, Sam is once again looking for a new home due to an international relocation where his family can not take him Foster location: With Yana and Lenny, Mt. Pleasant, SC Weight: Approximately 20 lbs. Sam is currently on a weight-management diet. Height: 12 inches at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes, Sam is neutered. Adoption Fee: $1 plus a donation of your choice to Carolina Poodle Rescue. Fence needed? No. Sam has a history of slipping out through open doors, so we are looking for someone who is absolutely committed to putting his leash on BEFORE opening the door to leave the house. A fenced yard is not a substitute for careful supervision and good leash habits. Sam enjoys outdoor time and walks, but his safety depends on a family who takes this responsibility seriously. Want To Know More About Me? Text Sam to 864-441-9075 for my full story - we'll share everything you need to know! Here's Your Quick Peek: Sam is a little dog with a very big heart! Once a frightened stray who barely knew how to accept affection, he's spent the past five years becoming a happy, cuddly, thoroughly spoiled companion. He loves belly rubs, afternoon naps, and looking after his older canine sister — and now, through no fault of his own, he's looking for someone new to love. Please Note: Carolina Poodle Rescue requires a meet and greet where everyone living in the home - all people and all dogs - will come to the dog's location to meet. This is non-negotiable. Please do not apply if you and your family can't make this commitment. Please note - if you want to skip the text and go straight to the application, you can find the link here: www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/application/ Must have: A calm, patient, loving home with someone who understands that Sam may need a little time to feel comfortable with new people. His family must be committed to careful door management and always having him securely leashed before opening an exterior door. Exercise: Sam enjoys his walks and spending time outdoors, but he's not a high-energy dog. At approximately eight years old, he's quite content with a comfortable couch and a good afternoon nap. Regular walks and a sensible weight-management plan will help keep him healthy and happy. Best with: Someone who wants an affectionate, devoted companion and enjoys a quieter lifestyle. Sam would do well with a calm, friendly canine companion, especially one who appreciates having a little shadow. He has been wonderfully attentive to his older canine sister, Kyra, following her around and even cleaning her ears. He could also be considered for a home where he receives plenty of individual attention. Not ideal for: A busy, noisy household, a family with young children, or someone who expects an immediately outgoing dog with strangers. Sam can be cautious when meeting new people and needs patience while he builds trust. He also barks frequently, so a household where barking would create problems may not be the best match. Energy level: Low to moderate. Sam enjoys walks and spending time with his family, but he also loves long afternoon naps, cuddling on the couch, and sleeping in bed with his favorite person. Sam was adopted from Carolina Poodle Rescue on September 3, 2021, and has spent more than five years as a much-loved family member. His family is relocating to Europe, and the challenges of international travel and finding dog-friendly housing have led them to make the difficult decision to find him another home. Sam is still living with his family in Mt. Pleasant, SC, while we search for the right match. He is a happy, healthy, affectionate fellow who loves belly rubs and being close to his people. He has become much more confident over the years, although he may still stiffen briefly when an unfamiliar person picks him up. He is comfortable with his own family handling him, does well at the veterinarian, and tolerates baths. He is current on vaccinations and heartworm negative, according to his family. Good with dogs: Yes! Sam has lived happily with his older canine sister, Kyra, and is remarkably caring toward her. He follows her around, cleans her ears, and seems to keep track of how she's doing. He would likely appreciate another calm, friendly dog in his new home. Good with kids: Sam has not been around children in his current home. Given his cautious nature and preference for a peaceful environment, we are looking for an adult home. Cats: Not tested. His current family does not have cats. Fun fact: Sam isn't much interested in toys, but give him a big chew bone and he's a happy fellow! He also has very definite opinions about sleeping arrangements — dog beds are apparently unnecessary when perfectly good couches and human beds are available. One more thing to know: Sam isn't a fan of long car rides. He becomes very still in the car and has occasionally gotten carsick on trips longer than about 30 minutes.
