" Joe Joe is a 15-yr old male intact Shih Tzu who came to us as an owner surrender when his family was no longer able to care for him. He has lived with children and cats. If larger dogs get into his personal space, Joe Joe is comfortable giving fair corrections to communicate his boundaries. His previous owner reported that he was “terrible” for grooming, but we gave him a groom here, and he did fine! Unfortunately, Joe Joe has several significant medical issues that exceed our capacity to manage and treat. He is visually impaired, with a cataract in his right eye and an enlarged, painful left eye that needs to be removed. He also has severe dental disease, with many missing teeth and heavy tartar buildup and gingival recession affecting his remaining teeth. Our veterinary team suspects he may need most, if not all, of his remaining teeth extracted. Joe Joe also has a heart murmur and a reducible umbilical hernia. Despite his significant medical needs, Joe Joe is a peppy little guy who has been eating well and soaking up love from volunteers and staff. We believe he has the potential to enjoy his golden years once his medical issues are addressed.
