Description
Meet Garfield (female) and Shadow (male)! These precious frightened babies are searching for a home where they can feel safe and loved. Over the past summer we received a call asking if we had room for 2 6 year old cats. The person contacted us again in early September. "No, I'm sorry," I replied "we are still full." The person on the other end of the line said, "Okay. Thanks anyway. I understand. I will just have to euthanize them." Wait.....WHAT?!?I asked what the situation was and was told that a 92 year old lady adopted them as kittens from a PA shelter. She was now 98 and no longer able to care for them due to health reasons. The family had packed up her home in an effort to sell it and the cats, now 6 years old, have been living in the packed-up vacant house - completely alone - for 2 months while she (a somewhat distant family member) was going in to feed them. They were very frightened and skittish and were hiding every time she had gone to feed them. She had called every rescue and shelter within a 50 mile radius and was told they could not take them in because they were full, and the house was about to be shown so the family member in charge said time was up. They had to euthanize. The cats are now in our care and the family member kindly gave a donation towards their vet bill. Sadly, in 2 months' time, they are just now beginning to come out of the carrier the two have decided to cram themselves into, despite being in a large dog sized crate with a bed, food, etc. They are now completely vetted and, God willing, ready to go to a new home where their new human or family will need to be patient and understanding and will give them plenty of time to adjust and just be themselves - not on a timed schedule - but to just relax and take their time being comfortable, knowing they are loved and understood.Garfield is a long-haired orange female (we were told she was a male originally) and is the more sociable of the two - the first to come out and say hello, the first to explore and want to know what is going on, the first to squeek out a little hello. She enjoys being pet and spoken softly to. She seems to calm Shadow. Shadow is a short-haired Russian Blue gray color with white. He has big eyes that you could just melt into. He is also very sweet, but also very frightened and timid. Lately he has been coming out to sit on top of his carrier before quickly scattering back inside the carrier when someone enters the room. These babies will need a patient, quiet home; we are hoping with a senior person or any kind person. We feel confident that once they are in their own quiet home they will feel safe and blossom. They are extremely bonded and must be adopted together. Both Garfield and Shadow are completey vetted - dewormed, spayed and neutered, had FVRCP and rabies vaccines, combo tested negative, and will be microchipped. In an effort to place them in a loving home quickly, we are adopting them as adopt one, get one free. These 2 have been through Hell together. They have lived their entire lives with a person that is now gone. They don't understand what happened to her, why they were alone, with strange people coming in and out of their home, and why they are now in a foster home. They are frightened. Please find it in your heart to give them a chance. If you can't, maybe you know someone who can. To fill out an application, please click here: https://www.jotform.com/form/221029453063044 Thank you.
