Saved from the brink of death by two dedicated officers and a medical team in Charles County after being discovered in an animal neglect case, Riley was given a second chance at life. Now he's learning what it means to be safe, loved and free. Watching Riley discover the world has been nothing short of incredible. This brave boy has embraced so many of life's simple joys, from car rides and toys to wrestling in the backyard with his canine friends. He especially loves playing chase with his foster sister and his own sister, Ella. The fun can last for hours before Riley happily settles into one of his favorite activities: soaking up the sunshine during a well-earned nap. When Riley first arrived, fear shaped so much of his world. He was hesitant to leave the car and too frightened to walk. But every single day, Riley chooses courage. He takes another step forward, trusts a little more deeply, and allows himself to experience the love surrounding him. One of the most rewarding parts of his journey has been watching him slowly inch closer each evening, tiptoeing his way into family life and discovering that affection and comfort are here to stay. Riley's gentle nature shines brightest around children. He adores following his foster family's two-year-old granddaughter around the yard, quietly keeping her company with the sweetest, most patient demeanor. His kindness and soft spirit make it impossible not to fall in love with him. Though he's still coming out of his shell, Riley has already shown everyone what a remarkable dog he is. Every new experience, every wag, every playful chase, and every peaceful nap in the sun is a reminder of just how far he's come. Riley is proof that with patience, love, and a second chance, healing is possible.
