Description

Meet Swedish Fish, the black and white terrier mix. Swedish was found by a good Samaritan along with 5 other dogs. She was running down the road. Lucky for her, the person was able to safely contain the dogs and bring them into the Shelter for safety. Swedish Fish seems to be inexperienced with new people, places and things. She can be barky and worried with new people but softens with time and patience. She is still perfecting life skills and manners like potty training and leash walking so adopters should be patient in the transition. Positive reinforcement based training will help Swedish Fish to learn new things and bond with her new family. Swedish Fish has met other dogs at the Shelter, ones she knows and those unknown. She prefers not to share his favorite things (yummy food, toys and treats) with other dogs in small spaces. She may enjoy a canine companion in the home after a meet and greet at the Shelter. We do not have any history of Swedish Fish with cats or children. On Saturday, October 31st, the Shelter is celebrating Halloween through an “Adopt Your Boo” special. This dog’s adoption fee is reduced to $31.Swedish Fish is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
