Description

Meet Bear, the little miniature poodle. Bear arrived to the Shelter as an owner surrender after his previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him. He has been in a home with a small breed female dog and did well. While the guardian was at work, he would check on the doggy-cam and see that Bear was sleeping or playing with the other dog. He is almost house trained – making great progress and having very few accidents. We do not have any history of Bear living with felines or children. At the Shelter, Bear has been a little nervous. With time and patience, he will lean in for petting and jump right in his person’s lap.. even letting out a few demand barks for more attention when they go to leave! With time and patience, Bear will gain his confidence with his new family and be the perfect lap dog. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. A home with felines may be a fit with a slow, thoughtful introduction. Bear is available for pre-adoption. Come meet him, fall in love and take him home after his neuter surgery. On Saturday, October 31st, the Shelter is celebrating Halloween through an “Adopt Your Boo” special. This dog’s adoption fee is reduced to $31.The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
