Meow meet Salem! Salem is an adult black cat who lost the life he knew when unfortunate circumstances left his owner homeless and living out of a car. His mom loved him dearly and truly tried her best, but as heartbreaking as it was, she knew Salem deserved more than the uncertainty they were facing. Saying goodbye devastated her, and Salem has been left to grieve not only the loss of his person but the home and life he once knew. Salem is taking this change incredibly hard. The familiar person he trusted is gone, and he’s suddenly surrounded by unfamiliar people, noises, and smells. Right now he’s frightened, overwhelmed, and understandably on guard. He can be defensive and hissy when he feels threatened, but underneath those protective walls is a boy whose trust has been shaken and whose world has been turned upside down. He’s really trying, even when it’s so hard for him. His green comfy bed has become his safe place, a small piece of comfort in a world that no longer feels familiar. Salem will need a very special adopter with an abundance of patience, understanding, and realistic expectations. An adult only home is a must, and he would likely do best as the only pet where he can have the time, space, and quiet he needs without additional stress. His healing won’t happen overnight. He needs someone willing to let him set the pace and understand that trust may come in the smallest of steps. We made Salem a promise: that we would find his person, a person who wouldn’t give up on him. Someone who will see past the hissing, the defensiveness, and the frightened little boy hiding behind his walls. Someone who will understand that he isn’t giving them a hard time. His mom loved him, and he deserves to feel that kind of love again. We hope one day soon his green bed will sit in a quiet corner of a real home, his worries will begin to fade, and Salem will finally feel safe enough to let his heart heal. He has lost his home once already. This time, we want him to find his forever!
