Description

* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, November 7th from 12PM – 3PM (unless adopted prior to the event).  3910 Middlefield Road All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption fee: $750 Chuckles: A Little Scruff with a Lot of Love   Chuckles is a 3–4 month old, 8 lb Cairn Terrier mix who believes the best seat in the house is whichever one puts her closest to your face. Your lap? Lovely. Your chest? Even better. Your actual face? She’ll make it work! With her wonderfully scruffy looks and enthusiastic affection, this little girl is ready to bring plenty of love—and chuckles—to her forever home.   Professional Cuddler, Part-Time Sunbather   Chuckles loves being wherever her people are. She follows her foster around the house, happily keeping tabs on the day’s activities and looking for opportunities to snuggle. She’ll cuddle with anyone, though her favorite person gets the full VIP treatment. Mornings are especially sweet: the moment she realizes you’re awake, she celebrates with face kisses and requests for pets. Who needs an alarm clock when you have eight pounds of “YOU’RE UP! I LOVE YOU!”?   For all her puppy enthusiasm, Chuckles also appreciates a leisurely lifestyle. She enjoys lounging, napping, and spending time outside soaking up the sunshine. Then, when her batteries are charged, she’s ready for a burst of playtime before settling in again.   Finding Her Funny Side   When Chuckles first arrived in foster care, she was nervous and unsure of the two small resident dogs. With time to settle in, she discovered that having canine friends is pretty wonderful. Now she regularly invites them to play and has become especially fond of one of them.   She’s still building confidence around unfamiliar things, but her affectionate, playful personality has blossomed. A home that gives her patient introductions and celebrates her small victories will help her continue to grow.   Chuckles is also catching on to the benefits of good decision-making. Once, after declining to potty outside, she watched the resident dogs receive treats for doing their business. Suddenly inspired, she headed right back out and took care of business herself. Apparently, she just needed to review the compensation package!   A Day in the Life   Her day begins around 7 a.m., followed by breakfast at 10, dinner at 5:30, and snacks throughout the day. Between meals, she divides her time among cuddling, following her people, playing, and enjoying the sunshine. She starts getting sleepy around 10 p.m., but likes to wait until the last person heads to bed. In her foster home, she sleeps on her person’s bed.   Chuckles is beginning to learn about leash walking. She doesn’t pull or bark on walks, but she does get distracted and sometimes circles around her person and the other dogs. She’s cautious around unfamiliar dogs and will benefit from gentle encouragement as she learns to navigate the world.   Little Puppy, Learning Big Things   Chuckles is making progress with potty training and does best with regular outdoor breaks. She uses pee pads, including when left in the kitchen with the resident dogs, but still has accidents, which is to be expected at her age.  She also has strong opinions about being separated from her favorite people. Although her foster reports that she settles when left at home with the other dogs, she cries at departures and may cry and scratch at a door if someone is on the other side. Her adopters should be ready to help her practice comfortable, gradual independence.  Like many puppies, Chuckles explores with her mouth, and shoes, socks, and paper are all tempting discoveries. She’ll need puppy-proofed spaces, appropriate chew toys, and supervision. She also enjoys digging and sometimes uses her voice to invite play, announce someone’s arrival, or respond to something unfamiliar—even that suspicious puppy in the mirror! Patient training and positive experiences will help her learn as her confidence grows.   Chuckles would love a family ready for puppy play, ongoing training, and a generous helping of affection. If your idea of happiness includes a scruffy little shadow, sunny afternoon snuggles, and waking up to someone who thinks you’re the best thing that ever happened, Chuckles is ready to meet you.
