Description

Meet Porto, a good-natured goofball looking for his forever home! This handsome boy's full name is Portokali, meaning orange in Greek. Of course, this perfectly reflects his handsome orange and white coat! Given his delicate nature and sunny disposition, he could easily be called Poppy or Marigold, sure to bring warmth and cheer into your home. Porto loves people! He may be a little cautious or shy with new people at first, but will soon be flopping down looking for a belly rub. His long lean body makes a big beautiful smile on the floor when he flexes his back and fully stretches his legs and belly. From his round innocent eyes to the tip of his long expressive tail, Porto is full of wonder and happiness! At barely a year old, everything is pretty new to him. He adapts well to his surroundings and is not easily startled by loud noises. He is fascinated by the magic of a flushing toilet, and curious about the sudden sound of a vacuum cleaner. He could spend all day intently watching everything that moves outside, and forgetting that the window is there to keep him safely inside! Did we mention that he's a goofball? After a few bonks to the head he'll look for a quiet place to enjoy a long nap before coming back out to bounce around with some favorite toys. What a joy it is to watch him play! He loves his catnip toys, balls and springs. And he always appreciates having someone nearby to play with or to offer him some affection. For being so young, this silly boy sleeps a lot and quietly keeps himself entertained. He currently lives quite happily with one boring human who he visits throughout the day and sweetly shares space with at night. Porto does well on his own, but he would probably do even better with a friendly feline playmate. Dogs and kids are unknown, but as long as they are gentle and respectful it should be fine after slow introductions. This kitty would not do well with an alpha pet or anyone hyper or overly active. It should be noted that Porto has recently been found to have a mild case of Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which sounds horrifying, but simply means that he wobbles a bit. His balance and movements are not fully in his control because that part of his brain did not fully develop. This does not affect his intelligence, nor his good looks. It won't get worse nor shorten his life, and he's not weak nor in pain. In fact, when Pet Haven paid for him to have an x-ray, the vet said that Porto has an exemplary body with beautiful muscular structure and perfect bones! He just has a derpy disposition, and doesn't know his limitations.Porto is still learning to adjust while he explores and plays like any normal kitty. For example, he can accidentally clear items off a desk when jumping up, or faceplant when getting back down. So far he doesn't even try to get up on counters, but precautions should be taken to ensure his safety as he grows more confident. He needs to be an indoor only cat. His ideal home would not have a second story balcony or bridge landing that he could fall off of. And his people would look for ways to make his world more safe and fun. Most adjustments are relatively simple such as using non-slip rugs, pet gates or padding in certain areas. We all have days where things don't go right, we drop the ball, or the rug gets pulled out from under us. Stuff like that happens all the time in Porto's world. This cute klutzy kitty can show you how to shake it off and go play!— — —There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown.
