Adoption fee: $650 Gibberish: Fluent in Fun, Still Studying “Leave It” Gibberish is an 8–10 month old, 13 lb Cairn Terrier mix rescued from the shelter, and he has quite a lot to say about how life should work: more toys, more adventures, and considerably fewer restrictions on toilet paper. Affectionately called Gibi, this low-shedding youngster is full of good cheer, terrier curiosity, and wonderfully goofy enthusiasm. His Love Language? Play. Gibi loves a good game with his people and happily hands over his toy so you can throw it again. He’s also quite capable of providing his own entertainment, tossing toys off the couch and hopping down after them. His transitions from playtime to naptime are impressively abrupt: one moment he’s hosting a one-dog circus, and the next he’s stretched out on his side, completely asleep. For his softer side, catch him in the morning. Gibi enjoys sleepy cuddles and affection before deciding it’s time to get moving. By evening, he often prefers to settle nearby with a favorite chew. He’s a companion with a full calendar. A Bright Student with an Enthusiastic Delivery Gibi is learning sit, down, and place, although sometimes a request for one command produces his entire repertoire. Surely something in that presentation earned a treat? Patient repetition, rewards, and clear expectations help him understand what you’re asking. His foster has loved watching his confidence grow with puzzle toys and sniffing games. Once he figured out his first easy puzzle, he tackled a harder one with determination. He’s also gaining confidence on stairs with encouragement. This busy adolescent needs daily exercise, mental stimulation, and adults who will continue his training. Without appropriate outlets, he may appoint himself household recycling manager—paper and cardboard are particular favorites. A puppy-proofed space, engaging toys, and suitable chews will help him make better choices. Friends, Walks, and Other Exciting Developments Gibi reportedly did well with other dogs in his previous foster home, and he greets dogs politely on walks, often following his introduction with an invitation to play. A compatible canine playmate could be a great match. He has also been sweet and playful with children. His excitement can lead to jumping and enthusiastic zoomies, so sturdy, dog-savvy children would be the best fit. Walks are a thrilling collection of smells, squirrels, and potential new best friends. Gibi pulls and gets distracted, especially when someone offers affection, but he’s working on leash manners. He has already made progress waiting at the doorway instead of rushing outside. An adopter who enjoys helping a young dog learn will find plenty to work with here. His Home Routine Gibi adjusts nicely to his people’s morning schedule, waking around 7 a.m. on weekdays and happily sleeping later on weekends. He currently sleeps peacefully at his foster’s feet in bed. He has some crate experience, though he has also protested confinement and would need a gradual, positive refresher. He’s doing very well with housetraining when given timely potty breaks. His foster has not observed separation anxiety, and he can spend time alone, though boredom can inspire some unauthorized projects. Exercise, enrichment, and a thoughtfully arranged space will be important parts of his routine. Wanted: Someone Who Speaks Terrier Gibi’s ideal home has some dog experience, a sense of humor, and the patience to guide an energetic youngster. He brings sweetness, a frequently wagging tail, and a sincere willingness to figure things out alongside his people. If your idea of a great companion includes morning cuddles, lively adventures, and a little comic relief, Gibberish might make perfect sense.
