At around 18 pounds already, this German Shepherd mix is likely to grow into a big girl. She's a cuddle bug who loves attention, especially from her favorite person, and enjoys soaking up affection. Ellie can be a little shy at first, but she's learning to trust her people. She may be hesitant when someone tries to pick her up, but get down on her level and call her gently, and she'll often come over for some love. Like any puppy, Ellie has lots to learn! She's just beginning her house-training journey and working on basic commands, so she'll need a family willing to guide her with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. She's still getting comfortable with a crate, too, and will benefit from a gentle approach as she learns new routines. This playful girl loves toys, stuffed animals, treats, and even playing in the water! She has a moderate energy level and loves to play, but when her puppy energy runs out, she's more than happy to curl up for some cozy cuddles. New or unexpected things can startle Ellie, and she may bark while she figures them out. With time, encouragement, and positive experiences, she'll have plenty of opportunities to grow in confidence. Ellie has done well with dogs of all sizes and would love a friendly, playful adult dog to show her the ropes. She hasn't been formally introduced to children or cats yet, so those relationships will need to be introduced thoughtfully. She's definitely a mama's girl and seems to gravitate toward women, but with time and gentle encouragement, she can continue building trust with others. Ellie's story began in the desert near the Texas-New Mexico border, where she, her brother, and her mama were found when the puppies were only a week or two old. A kind person took in the whole family and cared for them, but Ellie needed a little extra help finding her forever home and eventually came into ARR's care. She spent much of her early life in a shed, where she was loved but had fewer opportunities for the everyday socialization and early learning that help puppies feel confident. She's now discovering the world around her and taking things one little step at a time. Ellie will thrive with a patient, loving family ready to help her learn, explore, and build confidence at her own pace. A friendly, playful adult dog would be a wonderful bonus! She's an affectionate, adorable little girl who is just beginning her journey, and watching her blossom with a family of her own will be something special.   If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $475 (includes a $50 refundable puppy training deposit). Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.  Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking  here . Please give us 72 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls.
