General info
Description
Tilly has been placed on FINAL as of 10/23/26. She must be pulled by 5:00 PM on 10/30/26, or she will be humanely euthanized. While in the shelter, Tilly has demonstrated significant fear and stress during interactions with staff. She was observed hiding in her crate and trembling. Once in the yard, she did not approach anyone and remained at a distance. When a person sat near her, Tilly did not initiate an approach. Tilly did warm up to a staff member and allowed handling but was not allowing handling from other staff members. When staff attempted to handle Tilly, her behavior escalated. She began snapping, growling, baring her teeth, lunging and charging towards multiple staff member. These behaviors indicate that Tilly is experiencing significant discomfort with direct handling and close human interaction in the shelter environment. Her responses should be taken seriously when developing an appropriate handling, management, and placement plan. Tilly's observed behavior suggests that she may be highly fearful and overwhelmed in her current environment. Her reluctance to approach new people, trembling, and defensive responses when handling is attempted indicate that she will require a patient, cautious, and individualized approach. Her behavior in the shelter may not fully reflect how she will respond in a different environment; however, her snapping, growling, baring of teeth, and lunging present significant safety concerns that must be carefully considered. Tilly is available for rescue or adoption with a waiver. A rescue partner or adopter must commit to and pull Tilly by 5:00 PM on 10/30/26, or she will be humanely euthanized.EXTENSION REQUEST PROCESS A Rescue Group (RG) may request an extension of an animal's Needs Rescue Final Date no later than 5:00 PM on the noted final date by emailing SJRescue@sanjoseca.gov, with a cc to a Division Manager or Shelter Operations Supervisor. 10/20/26 13:062 year old female chihuahua in need of Urgent Rescue placement due to behaviors displayed in shelter environment and having a documented bite on record.
