Description

ANTEBELLUM NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Antebellum      Best Guess for Breed:   Shepherd mix   Best Guess for Age:  5 years as of April 2026       SEX:  Female   Approximate Weight:   30 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home   Antebellum is Looking For:    Her forever home! This sweet girl landed in the shelter through no fault of her own. At about five years old, she's past her puppy days but is up for adventure - she's eager for sniffy walks and romps and world exploration with her humans! A cushy dog bed, quality kibble, and lots of snuggles round out her wish list. But most of all she wants to know where she belongs, that she's safe and loved. What do you say? Do you have space in your home and your heart for Antebellum?   What My Foster Says About Me:  Antebellum is all the fun parts of having a puppy combined with the best parts of adopting an adult dog. She's medium-energy at home, where she likes playing with my other foster dog, chewing on stuffy toys, and snoozing next to me on the couch or in her crate. Outside, Antebellum can go for miles and miles of sniffy walks, and would make a great running or hiking buddy. She has a blast playing fetch, wrestling and chasing with other dogs, and playing with lickmats and puzzle toys. She's very polite and generally takes cues from other dogs well (including my own grumpy senior dog), although she is very playful and you can count on her to get the party started if other dogs are down to play too. We've had no accidents inside and she's content to snooze in her crate while I'm at work and overnight. However, Antebellum's favorite place is in your lap, even if you're a brand new friend that she just met. When I let her out of her crate, rather than zoom or run around, she gets right into my lap or she immediately flops over for belly rubs (earning her nickname "Belly"). Antebellum loves to cuddle and keep an eye on me at home, following me around from room to room. That said, she's not a velcro dog and has a very fun fearless, adventurous streak, and she enjoys exploring and doing her own thing too. Overall, Antebellum is a goofy, adventurous, snuggly, polite girl who loves people and other dogs. Even though she's not a puppy, she's got the energy and personality for both lots of adventures *and* snuggling on the couch afterwards!   Heartworm information: Antebellum is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Antebellum has completed this activity restriction period.     Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
