General info
Description
Shadow is initially timid but slowly opens up more and more as he interacts with people, consistently being cautious with newbies and greeting known staff with more interest as he gets to know them better. He is looking for a relaxed home where he can decompress and become social and playful. OTHER PETS: Shadow has lived with other small dogs and cats previously; when meeting a small dog at TJO he was initially hackled but stepped away and shook off. He would likely get along with a relaxed, well socizlied dog of similar size, and should meet any dogs he would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement, or willingness to learn, will be Shadow's best fit. It has been reported that Shadow is fearful of rain/thunderstorms, someone with experience supporting dogs with fear would be a great fit for him. [Some Experience] KIDS: Shadow is initially standoffish but as he has relaxed he has started sitting near people and occasionally seeking attention; he likes to stick close to the humans he has started trusting. Shadow has reportedly lived with children before and will likely get along with any humans who are able to be quiet, read body language, and let him approach them first. For everyone's safety and comfort, dogs and minors should be actively supervised. He should meet any minors he would be living with prior to adoption. [13+ / dog savvy (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Shadow will likely be a lap dog once he settles into his new home and feels completely comfortable around his humans; a combination of regular exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles, sniffing, games, and learning fun tricks, will help meet his needs. [Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: Shadow is an older dog and as such, will need more frequent vet care. He is also currently in need of a dental that TJO will provide prior to adoption. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement will help Shadow bond with his new owner while building confidence and learning new skills and fun tricks. When learning is fun it helps dogs feel more comfortable joining family on outings. [Minimal]GROOMING: Shadow was wiggly, vocal, and resistant to getting his nails trimmed. [Moderate]
