Description

Dusty Rue is a 9-year-old, 7-pound Chihuahua with one simple mission in life: to find the perfect lap and never leave it! Quick Facts: Name: Dusty Rue Breed: Chihuahua Age: 9 years old Weight: 7 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes (eats his meals in a crate) Good with Dogs: Yes (would love a doggie friend in his forever home, but not required) Good with Cats: Not tested (but open to a meet and greet) Good with Kids: Yes (best with older, respectful kids because he is so small and fragile) Energy Level: Low Fence Required: No Dog's Location: Garner, NC About Dusty Rue’s Breed: Our best guess is that Dusty Rue is a Chihuahua mixed breed. Chihuahuas are tiny, expressive companion dogs known for their big personalities, deep loyalty, and strong attachment to their favorite humans. They often bond closely with one or two people, enjoying warmth, cuddles, and staying tucked right by their person’s side. While they can be a bit timid or cautious with new people or environments, they flourish with gentle handling, patience, and consistent reassurance. Their ideal home is one that offers calm routines, soft voices, and a slow, respectful pace. Chihuahuas thrive with families who understand small dog sensitivities, provide plenty of lap time, and keep them safe from rough play or large, overwhelming pets. They do especially well in quieter households, with adults or older children who know how to move gently around tiny dogs. What to Love about Dusty Rue: This adorable little gentleman has been through a lot of changes recently, so it's no surprise that what he wants most is love, comfort, and someone to call his own. When Dusty first arrived in foster care, he spent a few days missing his family and searching for reassurance. But once he realized there was a warm lap available, everything changed. Give this little guy a cozy place to cuddle, and he is one happy pup. His foster mom describes him as having "active couch potato energy" because he enjoys walks and getting out and about, but the second it's time to relax, he's ready to settle into your lap for a marathon cuddle session! Dusty is a truly easy companion. He's potty trained, has excellent house manners, and doesn't need to be crated when left home alone. While he may let out a few sad cries when his people leave, he's never destructive and simply waits patiently for their return. The only time he uses a crate is during mealtime. This sweet boy loves people and quickly becomes everyone's best friend, especially if they're willing to share their lap. He's wonderful on a leash, enjoys leisurely walks, and is happiest when he's spending time with his family. Dusty gets along beautifully with other dogs and would enjoy having a calm, friendly canine companion who matches his relaxed energy level. However, if he were going to be an only dog, he would be happiest with a retired person, a work-from-home family, or someone who simply spends a lot of time at home. His dream home is one where he doesn't have to spend long hours alone. He's great with children but, because he's so tiny and delicate, he'd do best with respectful kids who understand how to be gentle with small dogs. Dusty hasn't had the chance to meet cats yet, but he's open to a meet-and-greet if a feline sibling is part of the family. At the end of the day, Dusty Rue isn't asking for much. A comfy lap, a loving family, a few leisurely walks, and plenty of cuddle time are all this little guy needs to be happy. If you're looking for a devoted companion who will happily keep you company while you read, work, watch TV, or simply relax, Dusty Rue is ready to become your new best friend. Dusty's ideal home: A retired person, work-from-home household, or family with a calm canine companion where he can enjoy plenty of love, companionship, and lap time. After all, the quickest way to Dusty's heart is simply making room for him beside you!
