Adoption fee: $650 Shopaholic: Your Next Impulse Adopt 1-2 years old• 12 lbs • Maltese/Terrier mix • Low shedding Shopaholic has finished shopping for baby supplies, and now she’s browsing for something just for herself: a loving home, a generous cuddle policy, and someone who understands that a walk is best enjoyed with plenty of sniff stops. This scruffy little sweetheart came to DPS after her owner became overwhelmed caring for her and her newborn puppies. We welcomed the whole family into rescue, and Shopaholic worked hard raising her babies. Now that her little ones are eight weeks old, it’s Mama’s turn to be someone’s baby! From Mama Duty to Main Character While nursing her puppies, Shopaholic was a devoted mom with a lot on her plate. Once her babies moved on, her playful, affectionate personality really blossomed. These days, she’s an expressive little companion who loves snuggling, playing, and keeping track of whatever her person is doing. Heading to another room? Shopaholic will accompany you—and may bring a toy, just in case your destination offers recreational opportunities. Sitting on the couch? She’s ready to tuck herself beside you. Trying to work on your laptop? She has a compelling counterproposal involving belly rubs. Her foster learned this firsthand when Shopaholic wedged her face beneath their arm, rolled onto her back, and gazed up with her tongue hanging out in a gloriously goofy grin. The laptop closed. Playtime commenced. Shopaholic knows how to close a deal. Her Daily Shopping List: Walks, Snacks, Snuggles Shopaholic usually starts her day around 7 a.m. with some cuddles and play before heading out for a long walk. She can snooze a little longer if you prefer, but by 8 a.m., she’s ready to get the day moving. Breakfast and a little more play follow, along with a farewell treat when her foster heads to work. An afternoon walk around 3 p.m., dinner around 5 p.m., and a final outing between 9:30 and 10 p.m. round out her routine. She loves exploring and sniffing along the way, but she doesn’t need nonstop entertainment. After an adventure, she’s quite happy to settle on the couch with her favorite person. She previously slept in a crate with her puppies, but now prefers sharing her foster’s bed, where she sleeps through the night. Sometimes she curls up above their head—a tiny, scruffy upgrade to the pillow collection. A Smart Girl with Excellent Taste in Treats Shopaholic is bright, food motivated, and very interested in making sure the treats reach their intended recipient. Once, she retrieved a bag of treats from her foster’s jacket and delivered it directly to them. Why wait for customer service when you can bring the merchandise to the register yourself? That enthusiasm is helping with her leash training. She can bark and react to dogs on walks, especially when they get too close, but treats, encouragement, and space help redirect her attention. Her foster has already seen progress, and her new family should continue patient, reward-based training. Squirrels also catch her eye, so secure leash handling will be part of her walking routine. Friends Who Respect Her Personal Space Shopaholic has formed a lovely friendship with her foster’s calm, gentle female dog. They play chase and enjoy each other’s company. She is more uncomfortable with dogs who rush up or sniff her insistently, and may growl or snap when overwhelmed. A compatible canine companion could be a good fit, with thoughtful introductions and respect for her boundaries. She can also be frightened by fast approaches and young children. A home with adults or older, considerate children would suit her best. Visitors may initially receive a little announcement barking, but she settles quickly—and several of her foster’s friends have subsequently been welcomed onto the couch for cuddles. Home Sweet Home Shopaholic has done well spending time at home while her foster works, with the resident dog for company. She initially scratched at the door briefly, but now settles comfortably. She has been trustworthy loose in the house within her permitted areas, without destructive chewing or accidents while her foster is away. She has generally done well with housetraining, with a few accidents reported during her nursing period, and knows how to use potty pads. Her new family should offer regular breaks while she learns their routine. Her charming scruffy coat sheds minimally and will benefit from regular brushing to keep her comfortable and tidy. Her Perfect Purchase? A Person to Love Shopaholic is looking for someone who enjoys long walks, playful moments, and plenty of affection. A yard would be a bonus, but regular outings matter more. She’d love a family who will help her build confidence while appreciating the funny, loving little dog she already is. She’s raised her babies, perfected her treat procurement skills, and earned her place on the couch. Now all that’s missing from Shopaholic’s wish list is you.
