I KNOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT BUT WE SCREEN VERY CAREFULLY FOR THE SAKE OF THE DOGS. THEY DESERVE IT! On occasion, we get calls from shelters in Colorado and the neighboring states that have dogs of other herding breeds than Collies or Shelties. These pups may not be doing well in a shelter environment or need more specialized care than a primary shelter can offer. Let me introduce you all to Bumblebee. Bumblebee is an adolescent Border Collie/smooth Collie mix with a heart of gold. We are pretty darn sure about the Border Collie heritage but less so about what other breed might be in there. The Bee is a spayed female, UTD on vaccines and microchipped. She has also been under the care of Animal Allergy and Dermatology of Colorado, based in Colorado Springs, for severe allergies. She has made tremendous progress but it is still likely that she will need ongoing specialized medical care, perhaps lifelong. She eats a very pricey rabbit dog food with the same formula in rabbit jerky as a treat. She has a specific shampoo to keep the irritated skin at bay and is also on Apoquel for itching. Putting the medical issues aside for a moment, this pooch is more fun to hang around with than most dogs. She teaches herself things daily. She saw my dogs walk through a dog door in the wall of my study and did not hesitate to follow. Bumble has a very affectionate nature and if her foster mom is sitting down anywhere, Bee is in her lap. We already have a super potential home for the Bumblebee, but we want our supporters to see that we have dogs behind the scenes all day, every day.
