Description

I am a very sweet girl and I arrived at the shelter with puppies. I was very underweight and also tested positive for heartworms. The shelter is treating me, addressing my medical issues, and making me comfortable. In North Carolina, it's unfortunately common to see many dogs that are infected with heartworms (they are transmitted by mosquito bites). Heartworm disease may cause severe lung disease, heart failure, or other organ damage in dogs. It's usually fatal if left untreated. Heartworm treatment is costly. With your support, OCAS can help more dogs with this disease - resulting in healthier dogs that are even more likely to get adopted. Please consider donating to our GoFundMe campaign.Insights from my foster:Pippi is recovering from sickness, including her ER stay and her ongoing two tick-borne illnesses and heartworms. In addition, she is nursing seven puppies. She is eating well and trying to get upt to the amount of food that was prescribed. She does have an appetite and is eating small meals frequently. She is nursing well. All the puppies seem to be doing well and are gaining weight. They are beginning to become more mobile and open their eyes. Pippi is a very sweet and cuddly dog, friendly towards everyone she meets. She has good energy levels, and we love having her! Pippi has one of the best personalities of any dog I have met! She is constantly wagging her tail, is cuddly and pretty chill, and she does not seem fearful or anxious. She seems happy to see anyone and does great with my kids.
