Description
Jose (A143365) is a 1-year-and-6-month-old Poodle mix who weighed 28.6 pounds on intake (but was severely underweight); he is up to 39.1 pounds but still underweight. Foster update: Jose is a really sweet boy! His coat requires very regular brushing to keep it from getting matted, but fortunately he seems to enjoy being brushed! I gave him a bath and cut some mats off and he was very calm and tolerant of the process. He was also very good with having his nails trimmed and held still nicely. He has gotten along instantly with all our other dogs and loves to play, but isn't too rough. He shares toys nicely and is ok with other dogs being in the vicinity of his food bowl while he eats, but will sometimes get grumpy if they try and interfere with him eating (fair). He does, however, do well getting treats around other dogs. He LOVES food, is very treat motivated, and really wants to please his people. He knows some basic obedience. He will automatically sit when he sees his leash and waits patiently for you to clip it on, and he walks well on a leash and doesn't pull. He hasn't been tested off leash, but he has snappy recall inside the house. He knows `sit` and is working on `off` but has a hard time not jumping on the people he's comfortable around because he LOVES pets! He is shy at first but warms up to women quickly. So far he has been very nervous with men. When he's around men and gets scared, he does not act aggressively but will run away while peeing. He has been great with women and loves to snuggle and get any and all attention. He wants to be right where you are at all times! He especially loves to cuddle on the couch or in bed.Jose is kennel trained and will go into his kennel on command. He is calm and quiet in the kennel. He seems to be mostly potty trained but still needs occasional reminders. If he is kenneled overnight he will whine to wake you up if he needs to potty. Overall he's been a very easy-going dog in foster! He's going to make a great pet for the lucky person that adopts him. 09/10/26 This cute guy is Jose! Jose was surrendered to the shelter and has officially been medically cleared for adoption. He arrived at the shelter severely underweight and was started on a refeeding plan. He is happy to eat and has started to put on some weight! Jose also has a coat that is prone to matting and it is important that his next owner ensures that they keep up with his regular grooming. Jose will need some continued help with potty training, kennel training, and basic commands. He can be a little shy at times, so it's important to ensure you're not rushing him. He was said to do well children, strangers, and adults. He was also said to get along with other animals including other dogs and cats. Please ensure you are making appropriate introductions to help set him up for success. He is a sweet guy looking for his second chance! If you are interested in meeting Jose, please let us know!
