Description

Hello! Like many dogs in NC, I am currently heartworm positive, but don't worry - OCAS will cover the cost of my treatment! In North Carolina, it's unfortunately common to see many dogs that are infected with heartworms (they are transmitted by mosquito bites). Heartworm disease may cause severe lung disease, heart failure, or other organ damage in dogs. It's usually fatal if left untreated. Heartworm treatment is costly. With your support, OCAS can help more dogs with this disease - resulting in healthier dogs that are even more likely to get adopted. Please consider donating to our GoFundMe campaign.Bently has a lot of energy and he did not do well with children and cats in a previous home. He overwhelmed them with puppy energy!Insights from adventure buddies and foster friends:Bentley overall is a very sweet boy. He has a lot of energy and will `mouth` and jump alot when first greeting or wanting to play, but once he settles he gives lots of kisses and likes to sit in your lap. He loved hiking with us today and enjoys long walks. He also enjoyed walking downtown and having a pup cup! He is very loving and needs someone who wants to take him places and get lots of exercise! He is very cute! We think he looks like a mini Scooby Doo! Love that he likes to hike and explore. Will give lots of kisses once he gets settled with you.I think Bentley may be slightly misunderstood. I see him at the shelter and he looks quite neurotic, running back and forth barking at dogs, but get him out at a home and he has puppy energy, but just wants to play and then he will settle down. He is quite gentle once he settles into time with you. He clearly needs a confident owner who knows how to be assertive and when. He wants to do the right thing, he just keeps forgetting what that is and needs reminding. He is not great with kids because they bring out the puppy energy in him and he forgets that they aren’t puppies and wants to play a little too rough. But he was great with our older dog! She was assertive with him and he understood right away that he shouldn’t mess with her. He REALLY wanted to play with her, but he respected her growl and walk away as proof he wasn’t going to get to play with her. I’ve taken Bentley on 3 doggie day outs. Each about 3 hours. The first was with my 9 year old and that didn’t go well because her energy brought the high-energy puppy behavior. The second was with just me and we walked and hung in my yard. He was mouthy, but stopped when I asked. Today, he seemed to have much clearer sense of what I expected and he wanted to please. I will definitely keep taking him out until he finds a home! I love his puppy energy and I believe he could be a GREAT dog for the right person or couple without young kids. Ideally someone who has time to help him get rid of his puppy energy and is able to set clear boundaries and be assertive while being kind. He will be a loyal and fun companion.Bently is a a spunky, energetic, and fun guy! He seems confident and was interested in getting pets and playing. We went for a 4-mile hike/jog. He maintained a good pace and really enjoyed running and hiking. He walks well on leash at a quick pace and really enjoyed taking in the smells along the trail. During our water breaks he was interested in getting pets and demonstrated his silly side by rolling around and scratching up against bushes! He had great stamina through out. Afterwards we relaxed in the yard and he had a lot of fun zooming around the yard chasing a ball. He has a vibrant, silly, and playful personality. My favorite thing is Bently’s zest for life and his spunky personality. He is will make a great adventure buddy!Bentley went for a short walk on a trail! He did great walking not pulling the leash and stopping to smell a lot! He was very curious to see people in bikes and look at cars. He did great in the car just roaming around, though it would be best for him to be restrained to one seat as he kept getting in my space while driving but he just wanted love! He can get mouthy when he gets excited! I bought him a new mummy toy when we stopped by Petco and he got to try some peanut butter! Overall he had a great day out and is just so fun with his puppy energy! My adoption fee has been fully sponsored.Adopt me and pay $0.00!!!
