Description

10/06/26 15:51 Medical update - mild improvement in swelling, and in limp at 2 week recheck, but the swelling is still persistent and she has a definitive limp at a walk. She has been on clindamycin for a week and the clindamycin is being extended to try to treat suspected joint infection. If lameness does not resolve, patient may need further surgical intervention, including possible amputation. In need of urgent rescue who can provide rest, antibiotics, pain meds and provide further surgical intervention if lameness does not resolve after longer course of clindamycin.09/28/26 18:44 Turnip is a ~4.5 lb female intact tortie who was brought to shelter for limping. She has swelling at her achilles tendon just above her tarsus (ankle) on the right hind leg. Xrays were taken to confirm this soft tissue swelling, but no fractures were found. There were a few puncture-type wounds at the ankle, suggesting this swelling may be indicative of a joint or deep tissue infection secondary to a bite. However, it is also possible that the swelling is indicative of a soft tissue injury. At 7 day recheck after convenia (injectable antibiotic) and pain meds her swelling is persistent but mildly improved, and she is bearing weight though with a limp (whereas the RP reported originally that she wasn't bearing weight at all). In need of urgent rescue. She is a little nervous but is affiliative and rubs her body and head against the cage and enjoys slow gentle interaction.
