Description

Meet Koby, an incredibly resilient, joyful Pyr who has never let his rough start slow him down! Koby was found as a stray in Alabama with an injured front leg. Sadly, the leg could not be saved and was amputated, making Koby a 3-legged pup - but you’d never know it from watching him go! He is extremely mobile, can run surprisingly fast, loves to play and dig, and approaches life with an infectious, happy attitude. Watching him race around and wrestle with his doggie friends is both inspiring and absolutely adorable. Koby is a high-energy boy who is happiest when he has other dogs around. He currently lives with 6 dogs of various ages and sizes and absolutely adores every one of them. He loves following them around, exploring alongside them, and especially playing with them. Because dogs are such an important part of his happiness, Koby needs a home with at least one or two other playful, high-energy dogs who will spend lots of time with him. A younger dog would be wonderful as a playmate, while an older dog could give him a canine role model to learn from. His ideal family will also be active and enjoy taking him places, playing with him, and giving him plenty of opportunities to explore. A 4-foot fenced yard would be ideal for this adventurous boy. Koby is housebroken and crate trained, and he knows “sit” and “come,” and is continuing to learn. He does well indoors, especially when his dog friends are nearby, although he definitely prefers being outside where he can relax in his favorite hole and watch the world go by. He gets around best on carpet, which is easier with three legs, but he has also learned to confidently navigate his foster home, which has wood flooring. Koby is a sweet and affectionate guy who enjoys meeting new people and loves being petted and showered with attention. He has met many people during his time with his foster family and has been wonderful with them. With a proper introduction, he is expected to be a great companion around children. He has also seen cats from a distance without reacting to them. He enjoys being brushed, chewing on hard bones, and playing with his stuffies. What makes Koby truly special is his incredible spirit. Despite losing a front leg at a young age, he has remained gentle, loving, playful, and full of life. He is a happy little tripod who seems determined to squeeze every ounce of fun out of every day. He will make you laugh, brighten your day with his positive attitude, and love his people and canine friends with his whole heart. Koby is looking for a fun, active, dog-filled home where he can run, play, explore, and continue showing everyone that three legs are more than enough for a very big life! National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes.
