Meet Trixie, a 1-year-old, 18 lb mixed-breed girl with a big personality and an even bigger need for patience, understanding, and love. Trixie is a sensitive little lady who likes to do things on her own terms. She needs time to warm up, prefers not to do her own thing and may become defensive when she feels scared or pressured. Her perfect person will be calm, confident, dog-savvy, and willing to let trust build naturally. Once comfortable, Trixie’s quirky personality really shines. She loves car rides, excitedly awaits mealtime and bedtime at 8:30pm when foster will say "who's ready for bed!" She's also been known to lounge across the top of the couch like a cozy cat where she will spend her days relaxing most of the time. Trixie would likely do best as the only dog in the home, where she can enjoy a peaceful routine and plenty of one-on-one attention. She will also need an adopter who understands that vet visits, nail trims, harnessing, and other handling may require assistance or medication. ​This gal also has a kidney condition that will need continued monitoring. She is on a special diet, needs access to fresh water at all times, and will need blood and/or urine testing a few times a year to keep an eye on her kidney health. Trixie isn’t looking for someone to change who she is—she’s looking for someone who will understand her, respect her boundaries, and celebrate every little step forward.
