Description
Meenie and Myne are a bonded pair of one year old spayed female cats, up to date on their vaccinations. They must be adopted together. Here’s what their foster volunteers say about them: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Meenie and Mynie are two bonded sisters who are still learning to trust people. Mynie is more shy and prefers to observe rather than directly engage, while Meenie is her braver protective sister who helps Mynie find the confidence to explore. They are both curious young cats who get along great with other pets. While both are pretty shy, they have made some significant progress during their time living with us. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Meenie doesn't seek out pets, but she'll accept pets from us from her cat tower. Recently, she started closing her eyes when receiving pets to show she's enjoying it. Her shyer sister Mynie does not yet accept pets from us. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? We usually pet Meenie on the top of her head, behind her ears, and behind her neck. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? No particular area that we have noticed. Does the cat come on your lap? No, their favorite spot is perched up on their cat tower or in cat huts, relaxing or sleeping. Does the cat like to be held? We haven’t tried to pick Meenie or Mynie up, but we don’t think they are ready for that yet. Does the cat sleep in your bed? We’ve only recently started letting Meenie and Mynie out of their foster room to explore the house, and they haven’t tried to sleep in our bed so far. Does the cat seek your attention? Not actively, but Meenie allows us to come up to her and pet her and feed her Churu treats. Mynie, being more shy, has been mostly hands-off so far. Does the cat like to play? Yes. While they don’t play in front of us, they have a bunch of toys in their room that we can tell are getting used. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? The toys they have access to include spring toys, balls, wand toys, and stuffed animals. How vocal is the cat? Neither of these cats are vocal and all, and we have never heard them meow! You wouldn’t need to worry about them waking you up or causing noise complaints. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, we can see that all of the scratchers in their room have gotten a lot of use. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, neither cat have ever had an accident with us. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Meenie and Mynie receive around a quarter cup of IAMS kitten dry food in the morning. We give them each one can of Fancy Feast wet kitten food at night. Is the cat picky about food? No, they are both great eaters! What is the cat's favorite treat? Meenie loves Churu treats and will eat them from our hands. Mynie does not yet accept treats from us. What medication is the cat on, and how is it administered? Neither cat is on any medication. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Meenie has never swatted us. Mynie will often hiss if we try to pet her, followed by a swat if we continue. She is still not comfortable receiving pets. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Once, when my wife tried to pet her, Mynie caused a shallow scratch on her finger. My wife had mistaken her for Meenie, who accepts pets easily. With Mynie, we go in for pets slowly to see whether she is willing to receive them. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No, neither Meenie nor Mynie has ever nipped us. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No, neither cat has ever bitten us. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? We had a pet sitter stop by when we were on vacation. He told us that Meenie and Mynie mostly hid from him, but they did not show any signs of aggression. If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? They get along well with our two adult resident cats, who will often come into the room when they are done eating to lick their food bowls. While Meenie and Mynie do not directly engage with them or approach them, they also did not show signs of being territorial or aggressive. We also have an adult lab retriever in our house, whom Meenie and Mynie have seen and have generally just avoided him, so they may be dog friendly as well. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? It’s really cute to see how much Mynie looks up to her more confident, protective sister Meenie. When we see the sisters exploring the house, they always do it together. They both have perfectly round yellow eyes and a thoughtful, cutely intense gaze. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? These two young sisters who started off outside before being rescued when their environment became unsafe for cats. Meenie is really starting to find her confidence, while Mynie still isn’t yet quite comfortable being petted by humans. Any home with some cushy lounging spots, ideally with a window or two, would make them so happy. What is most important of all is that these bonded girls stay together, as they help each other feel more brave and safe. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? The biggest challenge with these sisters would be their shyness. Meenie and Mynie will take more time to bond with their humans than many other cats. They've made progress in the couple of months they've been with us, but they still have progress to make. For example, when we started fostering them, they spent most of their time hiding in a closet in their room. Now, Meenie’s favorite spot is out in the open on top of her cat tower, and Mynie will often join her there. It will take the right type of person to adopt these two girls, someone who is passionate about giving a home to two beautiful but shy cats who might have otherwise been looked over. Their shy nature is not a reflection of their character, but a result of a difficult past and limited exposure to humans early on. It may take a few months or even longer before they are entirely comfortable with their humans, especially Mynie, but that is what makes the relationship more rewarding and the trust bond stronger.
