Description

Meet Rosie! Rosie is a 3-year-old, 13 lb Jack Russell Terrier with a gentle, quiet personality. She had a rough start in life, coming from an abusive home before ending up in a high-intake shelter in Texas, where she was found to be heartworm positive. She has since completed treatment and is now healthy and ready to find her forever home in Pennsylvania. She’s low energy (yes, a low energy Jack Russell!), but she does enjoy little bursts of zoomies with dogs she takes a shine to. Her ideal home is a quiet one, with a comfy sofa she can snooze on. Rosie would do best in a home that already has an easygoing small to medium-sized dog. She is crate trained, not a chewer at all, and does great with cats, mostly ignoring them. She’s very affectionate and loves snuggling up with her person on the couch or in bed. Rosie has been with our rescue for almost 8 months now, and she has really blossomed into a sweet, playful pup. That said, she still has some behavioral quirks we are helping her work through. She can be very fearful of being picked up or leashed, even though she does enjoy walks once she’s out. She is currently pad trained. While she is housebroken, she is sometimes unable to go outside due to her fear of being leashed. Rosie is a very special pup and is looking for a very special home. She is still working through trauma from her past, and we are looking for patient, understanding adopters who are willing to work with both Rosie and our rescue to help her continue to grow. Her adoption will require an extended foster-to-adopt period of at least 90 days, during which A Friend in Need will cover work with a professional trainer as well as a medication plan if needed. While our initial plan was to get Rosie fully ready before adoption, we’ve realized she will make the most progress with her forever family, not just a temporary one. Her foster family cares deeply for her and is not in a rush for her to leave, but she would benefit from a quieter home where she can get more one-on-one attention. Rosie is spayed and up to date on core vaccines. Her heartworm has been fully treated using the 3-shot melarsomine protocol. She does have a cherry eye, and the rescue will cover that upon adoption. Rosie is a gentle, loving girl who just needs the right home to feel safe and settled.
