Description

Meet Pumpernickel: Your Velveteen Cuddle Bug! Pumpernickel is a 4-month-old mixed-breed, black & white girl puppy with soft, silky fur and the tiniest paws.  She has a hint of brown under her coat and the start of a little lighter scruff around her neck.  At just 18 lbs, this velvet beauty has broken out of the shelter life and is ready to curl up in your lap and steal your heart for years to come. She and her two siblings, including Pepper, were born to their sweet mom, Mama June, in West Virginia, and Pumpernickel is looking for her forever family.  Pumpernickel's mama is about 45 pounds, so we expect Pumpernickel to be a medium-sized dog when she is fully grown.PersonalityPumpernickel is a snuggler through and through. She loves leaning into her foster family's necks, burrowing her head into a warm blanket (or into you), lying on a pillow, and relaxing on a hammock swing. When she's feeling playful, she's all about tug and fetch. She already points, knows "sit," and is working on "place."  She’s stealthy too; she loves hiding under the ottoman and popping out to say hi or pouncing down from above.Home Life Crate-trained: She keeps her kennel nice and clean for 4-6 hour-long errands and sleeps through the night. Potty training: She's in the tail end and does most of her pees and poops outside with frequent trips and positive rewards. Routine: She's a typical puppy who thrives on a schedule of eat, play, potty, and nap. Other dogs: She introduced easily to her foster family's 3-year-old male mix, and now the two wrestle, tug, and follow each other in the backyard together, but she'd be happy as an only-dog as well. Leash walking: She does well on a leash, both in the house and in the yard, and can't wait for walkies in her new neighborhood.Ideal HomePumpernickel would do best with a family who can offer the consistency, patience, and exercise required for a puppy. She might not be the best match for an older dog or for younger children who can't tolerate typical puppy play and teething, though she's easily redirected.  She's been playing with a wide variety of ropes, balls, and squeaky toys with her 11-year-old human foster brother.HealthPumpernickel is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all age-appropriate vaccines, plus flea/tick and heartworm medications. She's ready for her forever home!Ready to meet Pumpernickel? She's available for adoption on or after October 4th through Paws Across Pittsburgh in Springdale, PA.
