If you’re looking for a handsome German Shepherd mix with a playful spirit, a love for adventure, and a serious appreciation for squirrels, Chase might be your guy! At approximately 1 year old and around 65 pounds, Chase is an energetic young pup who is excited to experience everything the world has to offer.Chase can be a little shy when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly and has had no trouble making himself comfortable in his foster home. Once he settles in, he is a sweet and affectionate boy who enjoys cuddling with his people. He is generally quiet, although he will bark occasionally, and he has done well being left alone without any issues.Outside is where Chase really comes alive! He loves exploring, playing fetch, playing keep-away in the yard, and occasionally enjoying a good game of tug with a stuffed toy. He especially loves chasing squirrels, and one of his funniest habits is jumping up a tree in pursuit of one! Chase has medium to high energy and does well with a few shorter walks each day along with playtime in the yard. Because he is an active working breed, Chase will need a secure fenced yard where he can safely get additional exercise. He has not tried to escape his foster's fence, but he does like to jump, so a taller fence would be preferred.Chase is house-trained and does a nice job settling down in the home, although he will happily help himself to the trash if it is left unattended. He is not currently crate-trained, and his foster family has been working on helping him become more comfortable with a crate. Chase is still learning his manners and can be a bit of a naughty youngster. He may jump up or grab at clothing when he gets excited, but he is eager to learn and responds well to patient, consistent guidance.Chase has not yet been introduced to other dogs, so we do not know how he would do living with one. When he sees dogs while out on walks, he gets very excited and may bark, pull, jump, or whine. His behavior appears more playful and enthusiastic than aggressive or hostile, but he will need appropriate introductions and continued work on his leash manners before sharing a home with another dog.Chase has also never lived with a cat. He has a high prey drive and becomes extremely interested when he spots cats outside, pulling heavily toward them, so a home without cats may be the best fit. His foster family cannot predict how he would respond to a resident cat.Chase has had limited experience with children. He has been petted by kids while out on walks and did well, although his initial shyness meant he was not particularly interested in lingering. Because he is an excitable young dog who is still learning his manners, any interactions with children should be supervised.Chase is a fun-loving, affectionate young dog who is ready to keep learning and growing with a patient family. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.
