Meet Amelia Amelia is a sweet, curious, sassy, and wonderfully calm little lady who has a lot of love to give. A former show girl, she still carries herself with a little prance in her step and is completely comfortable with grooming, handling, and being pampered. She is also beautifully leash-trained and loves getting out for several walks each day. Amelia’s early life included the excitement of the show world, but her more recent years were much harder. As her owner grew older and could no longer care for her, Amelia spent far too much time in a kennel without the medical care or attention she needed. Despite all of that, she has remained incredibly trusting and affectionate. Today, she is thriving and pain-free, and she is soaking up the love and attention she deserves. Amelia loves her people most of all. She enjoys car rides, walks, belly rubs, ear scratches, lounging outside when the weather is pleasant, and snuggling beside her people while they watch TV or read. She isn't especially interested in toys—she'd much rather be wherever you are. And when she's happy, you'll get to see her adorable little butt wiggle as she wags her tail! Recently, Amelia has discovered a new hobby: squirrel watching and chasing! ️ Her curiosity is one of her charms, but it also means she needs to be kept on leash whenever she is outside. Amelia is now deaf following a bilateral ear ablation. She has adapted beautifully and communicates wonderfully through visual cues, routines, and the people who take the time to understand her. Because she cannot hear cars or verbal commands, she must be on leash anytime she is outside. A securely fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus where she can safely explore, but a fence is not required as long as her family is committed to keeping her leashed outdoors. As a former show girl, Amelia is well trained and enjoys structure. She loves her daily walks and is excellent on leash. She also sleeps best in her kennel and happily goes right in when it is bedtime. Her kennel can be a comfortable, familiar place for her—but after spending so much of her life confined, she deserves a home where she gets plenty of time out of the kennel and surrounded by people who adore her. Amelia does have some special medical considerations. She spent years without treatment for chronic ear infections and other health issues, and she has a sensitive stress response to illness and medical procedures. If she seems “off,” prompt veterinary attention is important. Her current veterinarian knows her history very well, and if possible, we would love for her new family to continue her care with that vet. Amelia's ideal home Amelia would love a calm, loving family who enjoys having a devoted companion by their side. Her ideal family will be home at least part of the day, since she has already spent far too much time alone in a kennel and deserves to spend this chapter of her life with people who truly cherish her. She will do best with: Plenty of companionship and affection Several leisurely walks each day A consistent routine and clear visual cues A family committed to keeping her safely leashed outdoors Prompt attention to any changes in her health or behavior Lots of cuddles, belly rubs, and ear scratches A comfortable kennel where she can rest and sleep when she chooses Amelia has been through more than her share, yet she has held onto her gentle, trusting spirit. She is happy, affectionate, curious, and ready to spend her next chapter being someone's beloved companion. After everything Amelia has been through, she isn't asking for much—just a safe home, a steady routine, a few good walks, and people who will love her as much as she loves them. ❤️ Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
