 * This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, October 3rd from 12PM – 3PM (unless adopted prior to the event).  3910 Middlefield Road All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption fee: $650 Cannoli 2 years old | 21 lbs | Schnauzer mix | Low shed Cannoli is a sweet little pastry with a bit of spicy filling. At home, he’s all soft eyes, chin rests, and requests for head scratches. Outside, every crow, passing dog, and blowing leaf is apparently breaking news that requires his immediate attention. The Sweet Filling Rescued from a shelter, Cannoli took a little time to learn that the refrigerator and washing machine were ordinary household appliances, not mysterious threats. Now he’s settled into a lovely routine. He starts with a 7 AM potty break, breakfast, and a morning walk, then spends the workday sunbathing, playing with toys, or snoozing near his foster’s desk. Around 5:30 PM, it’s dinner and another walk. After one last potty trip at 10 PM, he sleeps quietly on a bed or rug in the bedroom. Cannoli is house-trained, patient when his schedule shifts, and polite indoors. He leaves the furniture and doors alone and doesn’t beg at dinner. His signature move is placing his chin on his foster’s leg while they work: a gentle reminder that the head-scratch department is open. A Little Extra Zest Cannoli loves to play and has an impressive repertoire of joyful jumps. He’ll spin after his own tail for entertainment, and his ongoing feud with the vacuum follows a reliable script: charge forward bravely, leap backward in alarm, repeat. He also loves people. Guests get an enthusiastic greeting, often with a jump, and he likes to keep tabs on where his humans are. As he’s gained confidence, he’s become comfortable relaxing in another room, though the sound of someone getting up still brings him trotting over to investigate. Cannoli’s Recipe for Success Walks are exciting for Cannoli—sometimes too exciting. He pulls, tries to chase moving things, and barks  when he spots people or other dogs- just because he is excited to meet them, not out of aggression. His foster gives him space by crossing the street, and his adopter should be ready to keep working on calm leash walks. He can also bark at noises outside; a white noise machine helps him settle at night. Cannoli is still learning that departures are temporary. He currently cries when crated during errands, so he needs patient help with both crate training and feeling comfortable when his people leave. He does well loose in the home while supervised. A quieter home with a predictable routine would suit him beautifully. He previously lived with another dog in a prior foster home and did really well with a companion; he may settle more easily with a doggy BFF. He plays well and coexists well with other dogs. He has not met cats yet. While he has not lived with children, his friendly nature suggests that he would do well with them. Cannoli has plenty to learn, but he already knows how to make someone feel loved. If you have room in your life for a playful little shadow with a big personality, this Cannoli is ready to bring the sweetness.
