She came in with a collar so deeply embedded in her neck that it had to be surgically removed — a wound that tells you everything about her past and absolutely nothing about her spirit. Because somehow, despite the pain, despite the neglect, despite the fact that someone failed her so profoundly… Portia still loves. She loves people. She loves other dogs. She loves gently leaning her 69 pounds of sweetness against you like she’s trying to say, “Thank you for seeing me.” And now that her injury has been repaired, Portia is healing — truly healing — in every way. She’s on the mend, growing stronger, brighter, and more hopeful by the day.
