Description

Meet Maracas – a handsome, personable cat! A concerned citizen found Maracas as a stray, and brought him to us because he had a urinary tract issue they were unable to care for themselves. Over the past month and a half, after some initial treatment and changing his diet, the medical team at the Shelter has been monitoring Maraca’s health, as well as falling in love with his undeniable personality. He REALLY likes to snuggle. If he could crawl into someone’s skin to be closer to their heart, he would. If you walk into our clinic, you will either see Maracas running to greet you, like a dog, or curled up on someone’s lap making biscuits. Stranger? What does that word mean? He loves hard and sometimes gets a little OVER-stimulated. Cat-savvy adopters would be the best fit for this guy to observe if his tail twitches, ears go back or he just seems a little too “buzzy” with excitement... that's the time to take a petting break to let him calm down. As much as Maracas is exuberant, he can also be an adorably sleepy cat – sleeping away most of the day even while the medical team is in surgery or tending to the other animals at the Shelter. He has met a variety of cats and dogs that have come through the clinic doors – from tiny 1 month old kittens to 140 pound mastiffs. A home with other animals may be a fit with an appropriate introduction. Maracas does have street smarts from his life before the Shelter but would be best as an indoor, supervised kitty moving forward. Maracas is on a special diet which has kept is urinary condition stable. Adopters will need to continue this diet and monitor his litterbox habits a bit to ensure he stays in tip top shape and follow up with their vet if anything seems out of the ordinary. Maracas would do well in variety of homes and will provide character, laughter and company to anyone who'll open up their hearts, even just a little bit, to him. He'll NUZZLE in the rest of the way!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
