 * This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, October 3rd from 12PM – 3PM (unless adopted prior to the event).  3910 Middlefield Road All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption fee: $700   Meet Bugsy Bugsy is a 9–10 month old, 18 lb Schnoodle who came to DPS from a shelter. His foster family has learned two things about him: he loves a good game with another dog, and he loves a good cuddle even more. If you sit still long enough, Bugsy may rest his head on your shoulder and fall asleep. His Personality When he arrived at his foster home, Bugsy quickly made friends with the two resident dogs and started playing, even while he kept a close eye on his foster mom. He’s a sweet, gentle, playful companion who comes when called and happily accepts hugs, rubs, and kisses. He has a way of looking right into your eyes that makes it feel as though you’re the most interesting person in the world. Bugsy plays throughout the day with his 12 lb foster sister, and he also enjoys the company of the family’s 20 lb dog and a visiting 35 lb dog. His enthusiastic games sometimes include little play growls, but his foster reports that he is gentle with his dog friends. When playtime is over, he’s ready to settle in close. A Day with Bugsy Bugsy wakes around 6 a.m. and goes outside to potty. He eats two measured meals a day and usually takes walks around 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., with an extra late afternoon walk when there’s time. He enjoys meeting other dogs and may pull a little to say hello, but generally walks nicely without much pulling. During the day, Bugsy likes to stay near his foster mom while she works in her home office. At night, he sleeps in bed with her and the other dogs, often with his head tucked against her shoulder. He even tolerated his first bath in foster care with little fuss, and he lets his foster mom brush his teeth. The Little Things to Know Bugsy appears to be close to house-trained. He usually goes in the yard or on walks, though he has had a couple of overnight accidents. His foster home often leaves the back door open so he can let himself out, so he may need help adjusting to a new potty routine. He may chew on things, but stops when redirected by name. He occasionally barks when someone approaches the door or when the other dogs bark; otherwise, he’s generally quiet. Bugsy also has a sensitive stomach, so his foster has been careful with treats and has avoided chicken while figuring out what agrees with him. Bugsy became worried when his foster mom went out of sight during his first few days and would sometimes cry or scratch at a closed door. He’ll benefit from a family that can help him build confidence with patient, gradual practice being apart. His Perfect Match Bugsy could enjoy a home with a playful dog friend, or he could soak up the attention as an only dog. His foster reports that he does well with adults and children. He’s still a young dog who will appreciate play, walks, and guidance as he settles in. If your idea of a wonderful dog includes a lively playmate who turns into a devoted shoulder snuggler at bedtime, Bugsy is ready to meet you.
