Meet Sage, a sweet and thoughtful 3-month-old German Shepherd mix who may take a little time to warm up, but once she does, her playful personality shines! At 21 pounds and growing, Sage is expected to be a large girl when fully grown, and she has the most gorgeous hazel eyes to go along with her beautiful tan, brown, and white coat.Sage is a gentle, cautious puppy who loves to explore the world around her. She especially enjoys romping around the yard with her sister and canine friends, playing tug, chewing on natural chews, and splashing in water. If there is water nearby, you can bet Sage will find a way to have some fun with it! She is an explorer at heart and loves discovering new things at her own pace.While Sage was initially timid and slower to trust than her sister, she has made wonderful progress and is now comfortable interacting with people she knows. Her quiet confidence really comes out during play, and she can be quite the silly girl when she is having fun. She generally has a peaceful, easygoing nature, though she can get vocal when playing with other dogs.Sage does well with other dogs and has gone from being a little uncertain around new dogs to accepting them and joining in the fun. She enjoys playing with canine friends, but she can be sensitive to fast movement and overly energetic dogs. She has been around cats at the office without fixating on them, although her behavior with cats in a home is still unknown. Sage is good with children and would do best with dog-savvy kids who understand how to respect a shy puppy's boundaries.Sage is doing well with her crate training and considers her crate a safe, comfortable space. She sleeps and eats in her crate and does best with being taken directly outside when she comes out of her crate or pen. She is still working on house-training, but she is already accustomed to doing her business outdoors and rarely stools indoors.Sage was born and raised outside, where a truck served as her shelter and she grew up around many dogs with her mom. She is now discovering all the wonderful things that come with being a beloved companion, and she is looking for a family who will give her the patience, guidance, and positive experiences she needs to continue blossoming into a confident adult dog.Sage has a puppy's energy, with plenty of naps mixed in with playful bursts. She would love a home where she has room to explore and enjoy some free-roaming time, and a fenced yard would be ideal for this growing German Shepherd mix. While a fence is preferred, the right adopter with an appropriate lifestyle and a solid plan for providing her exercise and enrichment could potentially help her thrive without one. Sage is generally a quiet girl, but environments with shared walls, such as apartments or condos, might be too startling for her. Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.
