Watch out, world - here comes Fia! Fia is estimated to be 4-5 months old, and she is a fun and goofy girl who brings the party wherever she goes. She is a happy pup who can't wait to go on adventures with her fur-ever family and make lots of friends along the way. Her name means "deer" in Irish Gaelic, and she has the legs to match! Fia is a petite girl and weighs about 8lbs. We guess that she will be under 20lbs when fully grown. Fia came to us from a local shelter after she fractured her leg. She originally came into the shelter when she was only a few days old after she and her family were found as strays. She was raised in a shelter foster home, but after breaking her leg, she was transferred to us so she could get the medical care she needed. Luckily, Fia didn't need surgery, and her leg healed with crate rest. She is now fully healed and is slowly being acclimated to normal activity. Fia has all the wonderful personality traits that everyone loves about chihuahuas. She's comical, affectionate, and just a little sassy. She has strong opinions and isn't afraid to be heard, and she bonds strongly with her people. Fia provides endless entertainment with her curious and playful personality and would make a wonderful addition to a family who needs some more fun in their lives. She would thrive with a family who can keep up with her puppy antics and help her continue to learn all of her basic manners. Fia loves other dogs and has done great living with dogs of all ages and sizes. Being a small and delicate girl, she would do best in a home with dogs who are her size or only a little bigger so that she doesn't accidentally get hurt during playtime. She also could do okay as an only dog, given she can have lots of opportunities to socialize with other playful dogs. Fia was raised around cats and could do well in a home with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction and proper supervision. Fia could be a wonderful addition to a home with kids 10 years and older. She wouldn't be a good fit for someone with mobility issues, as she often gets underfoot and can easily get hurt if stepped on. Fia has been doing very well with her house training, but she is still learning and will need a patient family who can continue her training. She is just learning how to walk on a leash, so she will also need to work on that in her future home. Fia is used to hanging out in her pen when home alone and when not being actively supervised. She is okay being left for short periods and sleeps through the night in her crate. Fia is such a wonderful little lady, and she can't wait to brighten up your days. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
