Ghost may have had a spooky start to life, but those days are behind him now. He was abandoned and found as part of a hoarding situation in Alabama, tied to a porch on a short rope and in very sad shape. Thankfully, his story is getting a much happier ending, and this gentle guy is ready to haunt your heart - in the very best way! Ghost is leash trained and crate trained. He’s definitely a “do what I want” kind of guy, but he does it with such a calm and gentle spirit that it’s hard not to smile. His activity level is average, and so far, he hasn’t shown any signs of being an escape artist, fence climber, or digger. He also doesn’t have the typical Pyr tendency to sound the alarm at every little ghostly apparition - his barking is actually less than average! Ghost has been introduced to cats and doesn’t seem particularly fazed by them. He has also been around numerous dogs and gets along with everyone, so canine friends are welcome in his haunted house! He absolutely loves meeting new people and going places, and his favorite thing in the world is simply getting attention from his humans. He hasn’t had exposure to children yet, but given his confident, easygoing personality and gentle nature, his foster doesn’t anticipate any issues. As for things he dislikes or fears? So far, his foster hasn’t found anything! Ghost is a confident fellow who takes life in stride and doesn’t seem to get overly excited about much of anything. He enjoys being outside, but he has also figured out the most important rule of the house: the food is inside! What makes Ghost truly special is how gentle he is. He’s sweet, loving, confident, and wonderfully calm. He doesn’t need a perfectly spooky mansion to be happy - he just needs people who will give him the love and attention he deserves. Ghost would do well with or without other dogs and could fit comfortably into a variety of homes. A home with a 5-foot securely fenced yard would be wonderful for him, but he could also thrive as a leash-walk-only dog. This dog travels with an Interstate Health Certificate required by the USDA confirming that all the above criteria have been met. Fees: Adoption fees are determined on a sliding scale depending on age, location and transport. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. Fees for dogs adopted locally start at $400 and can range up to $700 for puppies under six months. Puppies placed on spay/neuter contracts receive $100 back when the dog is spayed or neutered. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues.
