Meet Shadow! Shadow is an 11.5-years-young Chihuahua mix with plenty of personality packed into his little senior body. When Shadow first came to us, he was dealing with significant allergies and a painful skin infection. Since then, he has been healing beautifully, growing his fur back, and most importantly, feeling so much better. As he’s gotten more comfortable, we’ve had the chance to watch his true personality start to shine. Shadow has discovered that toys are pretty fun, enjoys cruising around the yard with the occasional round of “old man zoomies,” and loves nothing more than finding a sunny spot to simply relax. While he enjoys being near his people, Shadow is more of a behind-the-scenes kind of guy—perfectly content watching the action rather than being right in the middle of it. He’s the perfect combination of a lazy-Sunday couch potato and a playful little companion. Shadow is currently fostered with other small dogs and does well with them as long as they respect his space. He’s a senior gentleman who knows his boundaries and isn’t afraid to remind another dog when they’re being a little too pushy. He has not been a fan of the medium-sized dogs he has encountered, so his ideal canine companion would be another small, mature, respectful dog who understands that sometimes Shadow just wants to be left alone. He also doesn’t seem particularly concerned about cats. He may give them a sniff, but his interest generally ends there. Shadow is crate and kennel trained and house trained, and he loves curling up in a soft, cozy donut bed for a good nap. Once he’s outside, he does like to mark just about everything he can find, making sure the neighborhood knows Shadow was there. He walks very nicely on a leash and harness and has become accustomed to the regular baths he needs while his skin continues to heal and stay comfortable. He isn’t always a fan of being picked up and definitely has some opinions when it comes to veterinary handling, especially nail trims, so an adopter who understands and respects a senior dog’s boundaries would be a great fit. Shadow’s ideal home would be one where he can spend his golden years being completely spoiled as the only dog, or sharing his home with another small, mature, respectful dogwho understands personal space. Shadow is friendly with people, but because of his age, preferences, and desire for a calmer environment, we believe he would do best in a home with older, mature children or no children at all. Shadow may be a senior, but he still has plenty of love, personality, sunshine naps, toys, and old-man zoomies left to share. He’s simply looking for a family who will appreciate him exactly as he is and give him the comfortable, love-filled retirement he deserves. ❤️
