Hi, I’m Elwood.  I’m a 9-year-old grey tabby, and if I could tell you everything I’ve been through, I would. But some parts of my story will probably always be a mystery. I was found wandering the streets by a police officer. No one knows how long I had been out there on my own or what I experienced while trying to survive. When my owner was eventually contacted, they didn’t want me back. So, once again, I found myself without a home and surrounded by people I didn’t know. At first, everyone wondered if I had become feral. I was scared, unsure, and didn't know whether humans could be trusted anymore. And honestly? It took me a while. A lot of patience, a lot of love, and even more grace. But little by little, I started remembering what kindness felt like I learned that hands can be gentle. I learned what pets and affection feel like again. I learned that I don't always have to be afraid. I've even shown everyone what a gentle boy I can be around children. Underneath all those years and all those unknowns is a sweet, loving cat who just needed someone to give him the time to feel safe again. I'm currently staying at PetSmart in Naperville, waiting for the person who will look at me and understand that trust doesn't always happen overnight. My perfect person will be patient, kind, and willing to let me move at my own pace. I may need a little more time and understanding than some cats, but I promise there is so much love waiting on the other side. We may never know everything I've been through. But maybe the best part of my story hasn't happened yet. Maybe it's you.  Elwood is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations,  spayed/neutered, and litter box trained.
