  Adoption fee: $650   Sorbet: One Sweet Scoop!   Sorbet, a 14-16 week old Lab mix, and his siblings came to DPS from a rural shelter. Their mama was a 50-pound Black Lab, while dad remains the mystery ingredient in this particular recipe—perhaps a Shepherd mix? Whatever went into Sorbet’s DNA, the result is one exceptionally sweet, smart, and easygoing puppy. He is currently 20 lbs, and adopters should be prepared for him to grow into a medium-to-large dog.   A Big Bundle of Love   When Sorbet first arrived in his foster home, he was unusually quiet and subdued. His foster family soon realized that he wasn’t feeling well, but after a few days of medication, the real Sorbet emerged—and what a delightful boy he is! He is playful, affectionate, curious, and always ready to join whatever fun might be happening.   Sorbet loves being held and cuddled, but he is also perfectly happy sitting beside his people with a toy or chew before heading off on another exploration. When he is out and about, he follows either his foster family or their resident Doodle, hoping to score playtime, affection, a treat—or, ideally, all three.   His foster family has cared for many dogs and puppies and says Sorbet is one of the sweetest and easiest they have ever fostered. He is food motivated, eager to please, and already knows “sit” and “touch.”   Play Hard, Nap Hard   Sorbet starts his day quietly around 6:30 or 7:00 AM, patiently waiting in his exercise pen until someone comes to let him out. After a potty break, he enjoys about 20 minutes of playtime followed by a hearty breakfast. Since he is still too young for public walks, his mornings are spent playing with his foster brother before returning to his pen for some quiet time and a nap.   Around lunchtime, Sorbet heads out for another potty break, has some kibble, and often spends an hour or two playing outside. Dinner is served around 7:00 PM, followed by an evening of family time, wrestling with his Doodle buddy, or happily working on a bully stick. After one final potty break, he settles into his exercise pen around 9:00 PM and sleeps quietly through the night.   Sorbet has plenty of puppy energy, but he also has a wonderful off switch. Once he has played, he is content to relax, entertain himself, or rest in his pen while his foster family runs errands.   Friends Make Everything Sweeter   Sorbet adores his foster family’s Doodle and follows him everywhere, frequently inviting him to play. He would be thrilled to have a playful canine companion in his forever home, although he could also succeed as an only dog with plenty of socialization and doggy playdates.   He has happily accepted attention from both adults and children while riding in his stroller. A five-year-old neighbor regularly visits to give him treats and pets, which Sorbet repays with kisses. He has a gentle, soft mouth and could be a fun match for a home with children age five or older. He has not been tested with cats but would likely do well with proper introductions.   A Promising Young Student   Sorbet is doing exceptionally well with housetraining. With frequent and consistent potty breaks, he has not had any accidents inside his foster home. He even prefers to wait to be let outside rather than use the potty pads in his pen. His adopters should expect to continue his routine and reinforce all the excellent progress he has made.   He is crate trained for travel but prefers relaxing in his exercise pen at home. Sorbet does get carsick, so he should not be fed immediately before a drive. He may grow out of it!   Like many puppies, Sorbet is currently experimenting with chewing and digging. His foster family redirects him toward appropriate toys and chews and uses fencing to keep tempting digging areas off-limits. He is otherwise remarkably quiet and rarely barks—even when the resident dogs get vocal.   There was one memorable exception: Sorbet once spotted his reflection in a glass cabinet and became convinced another puppy had arrived to play. He barked, bounced, and tried his hardest to reach his mysterious new friend, never quite figuring out why that puppy copied his every move!   The Perfect Flavor for Almost Any Family   Sorbet could thrive in many different kinds of homes. He would love another playful dog, older children, or an active family committed to giving him plenty of attention, enrichment, training, and socialization. He is smart, loving, adaptable, and wonderfully balanced—playful when it is time for fun and calm when it is time to relax.   With his affectionate nature, eager-to-learn attitude, and little dash of puppy mischief, Sorbet is ready to become someone’s favorite treat.
