Forever home wanted, meet Charlotte. Charlotte entered the Baldwin Park shelter back on July 28th along with another labrador. They were both gorgeous dogs on stray hold so we watched them expecting them to be reclaimed by their owners. Two weeks later they were still in the shelter so we decided to inquire about them. Their stray holds were up on August 7th, owners were contacted but never came to reclaim them. As I was texting with the rescue coordinator to discuss them coming to our rescue, I received a call. The call was to alert me that on rounds, they discovered Charlotte was in active labor and had just delivered two puppies! We of course wanted to hurry to get her out of the stressful shelter environment to finish whelping her litter, but they refused to release her just yet. Charotte would end up delivering 7 beautiful puppies; 5 males and 2 females.  As it ended up, Charlotte and her puppies ended up staying an additional two days at the shelter and there was nothing we could do about it. It was a very hot day on Sunday when we were finally able to get them out, 92 degrees and so humid. It was a long stressful ride to the fosters.  Within two hours of getting Charlotte and her 7 babies settled in the foster home, she showed signs of being sick with a pretty significant upper respiratory infection. We were able to get her in to see a veterinarian the next morning and started her on antibiotics. It was a very stressful four weeks but once we got Charlotte on the right antibiotic to treat mycoplasma and adenovirus, she recovered nicely and put on some much needed weight.   More about Charlotte's and her temperament. She is such a happy, loving, affectionate dog and a very dedicated mother. The shelter had aged her at 9 months but when the veterinarian saw her she thought perhaps she was a little older, based on plaque on her lower teeth. So while we believe she is young, the guess is most likely a year old. She is super playful and loves all the resident dogs in her foster home. She is friendly with everyone she meets. She will always try to wiggle her way on to your lap! She's pretty good on the leash and nonreactive to dogs we encounter. Charlotte will make a wonderful addition to any family looking to welcome a pup to their family.  Charlotte will remain with her puppies until they are 8 weeks old and weaned.
