Meet Pickle, the handsome black cat. Pickle arrived to the Shelter after his previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him. He used his litterbox reliably in his previous home and enjoyed playing with toys. Although he can be independent, as soon as you approach his kennel – he comes up and rubs up against people’s hands. Pickle has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) – a disease that is primarily transmitted through bites. Cats with FIV may have shorter lifespans than cats without FIV, but the majority live healthy and happy lives for many years. Because the virus impacts a cat's immune system, cats with FIV are more vulnerable to infections. Because of this, it is important to stay up to date on veterinary exams, to keep current on preventive care (including vaccines, parasite control, and labwork), and to get veterinary care quickly if the cat is showing any signs of illness. FIV is contagious to other cats primarily through biting. For this reason, this cat should be kept indoors only and live only with other FIV positive cats. FIV cannot be transmitted to humans, dogs, or other non-feline pets in the home. We strongly recommend establishing care with a veterinarian shortly after adoption for guidance and long-term care.Pickle ‘s favorite activities in his previous home were playing with fuzzy balls, sleeping and eating. He is not a fan of dogs and would prefer a canine free home. Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
