Description
Meet Kallie, formerly known as Petra. Kallie is a 4-year-old, 61 pound, ball of love, personality, and a LOT to say! As a German Shepherd/Husky mix, she got the best (and funniest) parts of both breeds: the loyalty and devotion of a Shepherd, paired with the Husky’s expressive voice and big opinions. Kallie’s ideal day is pretty simple: go somewhere, do something, and then come home and snuggle her people. She loves long walks, car rides, being outside, and spending time with her family. She has a huge personality and moderate energy, so she’s looking for a family who wants an active, involved companion and is ready to give her plenty of attention. Kallie will need a fenced in yard (6' fence) so she can romp around, sniff, play, and sunbathe safely. She is also seriously athletic! Kallie has incredible speed and agility and would happily turn almost anything into a game of chase. Once she’s had a chance to burn off some energy, she settles in beautifully as Kallie is crate and house trained and does best being left loose in the home. Her foster parents currently work a hybrid schedule, and when they leave, Kallie typically finds her favorite spot by the window and patiently waits for them to come home. Kallie knows her name and knows commands including sit, lay, and heel, which she follows about 75% of the time. She’s smart enough to know what you’re asking… whether she feels like doing it is sometimes another question. She is VERY food motivated, and the sound of a treat bag rustling will get her attention in approximately 0.2 seconds. She loves food puzzles and enrichment toys and has figured out how to open treat balls, solve puzzles, and perhaps most impressively, open human doors and dog gates. Basically, Kallie is clever, curious, and always looking for her next project. Her family will need to be willing to keep her mentally stimulated and make sure her cleverness doesn’t get her into trouble! Kallie grew up in a home with two other dogs and a cat, however, sharing a home with multiple animals ultimately was not a good fit for her. When the other animals got too close or were in her face, Kallie could become reactive. For that reason, she would be happiest and safest as the only animal in her home. That doesn’t mean Kallie can never be around another dog. She has had successful play dates when introduced slowly, thoughtfully, and carefully. She simply does best when she has her own space and doesn’t have to share her home or personal space with other animals. Kallie can occasionally become protective when she sees other dogs while out on walks, however does well a majority of the time. She needs a confident, strong handler who is comfortable managing an energetic dog and continuing to work with her on leash skills. Kallie will pull on the leash at first due to excitement and energy but we'll walk nicely next to you eventually. When seeing other dogs on walks, her foster parents make her sit and they pass, and Kallie does well with that. She has been around children, but because she is energetic and can get very excited, preteens and older would be the best fit for her. If Kallie could write her own adoption application, she’d ask for a home where she is the one and only four-legged baby, preferably with a big fenced-in yard where she can zoom around to her heart’s content. She wants a family who will take her on adventures, keep her busy, laugh at her big personality, give her plenty of attention, and most importantly love her as hard as she loves them. Because underneath all that energy, sass, intelligence, speed, and Shepsky commentary is a dog who just wants to be your girl. Kallie is an incredibly loving companion, and her ultimate goal in life is to have as much fun as possible while loving her family very, very deeply. Interested in adding Kallie to your home?
