Description
Animal Information: Mara is a 2.5-year-old, 40lb "lab mix". She was picked up in March of 2026 in Caddo Parrish, LA where she was found with 11 puppies. Some of the puppies were younger than the others, which meant that Mara had adopted a litter without hesitation. All of the puppies were tagged for rescue, but Mara was left in the shelter. We fell in love with her sweet personality, but she tested positive for heartworm, and WA state does not allow heartworm positive dogs to enter from out of state. We comitted to Mara, and someone in LA stepped up to foster her for treatment. Mara finally tested negative and made her way to Seattle 8/24/26. We are so happy she is here! Foster Profile: Mara is a unicorn dog. Seriously. This girl is absolutely wonderful to have in the home. She is sweeter than pie, wants nothing more than to be with her person, and is basically always smiling with a full-body tail wag. Give her the opportunity and she will immediately melt into the floor for a belly rub. She is excellent in her crate, fully house trained, and so quiet and well behaved that I genuinely forget she’s here half the time. She rides great in the car, isn’t a big barker, and does great home alone while I’m at work. Mara has never really been without other dogs in her life, so we would prefer a home with another dog who would enjoy having a buddy. That said, she could absolutely be happy as an only dog with someone who is home more often than not and can give her plenty of companionship. She LOVES her people and would happily spend her days following you around. With other dogs, Mara is generally submissive when meeting them initially. Once she gets comfortable, though, she absolutely loves to run and play. Hike? She’s in. Couch cuddles? Also in. Mara really is the kind of dog who can happily go on an adventure with you and then come home and snuggle.
