Adoption fee: $650   Egghead: A Smart Cookie with a Silly Name   Egghead is a 10–12 week old Lab mix who currently weighs about 11–12 pounds. This happy little mystery mix pup was rescued from the shelter and has quickly proven himself to be curious, cuddly, speedy, and an all-around delightful baby dog.   Cracking Out of His Shell   When Egghead first arrived in his foster home, he was quiet and observant. He spent his time watching the activity around him, enjoying the fresh air outside, and carefully taking in his new surroundings. Within a few days, his playful personality began to emerge. He discovered toys, learned to chase a ball, and started sprinting after his foster family around the yard.   Now Egghead is one happy, happy puppy. He loves being around people and would happily follow his humans everywhere if given the opportunity. He is a cuddler who enjoys playing in a lap—and would gladly turn that lap into his personal napping spot afterward. When he wants attention, he may offer a little bark or whine, but he is generally a quiet puppy who calmly watches people and dogs pass by his pen.   Fast, Fearless, and Full of Fun   Egghead may be small, but this boy can move! He races around the yard at impressive puppy speed and sometimes finishes his run by launching himself directly at a person. His foster family finds his enthusiastic entrances equal parts hilarious and startling.   Egghead enjoys balls, squeaky toys, and rope toys that satisfy his teething needs. He can entertain himself in his pen, but he also needs several opportunities throughout the day to run, play, and burn off his puppy energy. Once he has had enough activity, he is good at settling himself down for a nap.   He appears eager to play with other dogs, although the resident Shiba Inu prefers to admire him from a distance. Egghead has not been tested with cats. He is also playful with children, but he is still exploring the world with his mouth. His sharp little puppy teeth will require supervision and consistent redirection, particularly around younger children.   A Day in the Life of an Egghead   Egghead wakes between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. and may snooze again until breakfast at 8:00 a.m. He currently eats three meals each day at approximately 8:00 a.m., noon, and 5:00 p.m.   His day alternates between supervised playtime in the yard, enrichment, and naps in his pen. Because he is not yet fully vaccinated, he has not started walking on public streets. He can still explore the wider world safely from a carrier and enjoys accompanying his foster family on strolls or errands. He is curious about everything around him and settles nicely in the carrier when someone talks to him.   In the evening, Egghead plays, naps, wakes up for one last burst of activity, and then settles for the night once the lights go out.   His Puppy Headquarters   Egghead has a spacious pen furnished with a fluffy bed, toys, and potty pads. He plays independently, relaxes, and sleeps there throughout the day and night. He typically chooses the edges of the pen for potty breaks and keeps the area near his bed clean.   Egghead can stay calmly in a crate when necessary, although he does not currently sleep in one or choose to enter it on his own. He is generally quiet in the crate and would benefit from continued positive crate training.   Puppy Training 101   Egghead is teething and communicates through plenty of puppy mouthing and biting. Age-appropriate chew toys, redirection, structured play, and puppy training will help him develop good manners. This clever, people-oriented boy has all the makings of a wonderful student.     Egghead’s Ideal Home   Egghead would thrive with a family ready for all the fun—and work—that comes with raising a young puppy. A yard would be a wonderful bonus for this speedy boy, although any home committed to providing safe exercise, enrichment, training, and socialization could be a great match.   He would love people who can include him in daily life, provide several active play sessions, and then make room for him to curl up in a lap. He is already learning how to entertain himself and settle independently, which will serve him well as he grows.   With continued training, patience, and lots of love, this curious little Egghead is going to grow into one very good dog.
